I said this in the other Hitler thread in the supporters forum, but that was the correct move. Stalin had intended to double cross Hitler long before they finalized their pact to split Poland. Hitler invading the Soviets was a pre-emptive strike to beat Stalin at his own game. Hitler's indecisiveness is the only thing that kept Nazi Germany from bringing the USSR to its knees. The Soviet Union was so poorly planned that everything from rail to communications went through Moscow. Moscow was there for the taking if Hitler hadn't gotten cold feet on the invasion. No Moscow = No USSR.

In regards to honoring the Soviets, I'm torn. On one hand they lost more than any other country during WWII and we could honor those who fought and not necessarily Stalin. On the other hand, the behavior of many of the Soviet soldiers towards the German citizens, specifically the females, during and after the Battle of Berlin was disgusting and sub-human behavior IMO.

D-day was also more of an invasion to stop the Soviets more than it was to stop the German's. By the time it was launched, the Red Army was already destroying the Nazi's.

I'd much rather live under Stalin than Hitler because I have more sympathy with Stalin's ideology than with Hitler's (and I hope we all do to be fair...)

But yes honor the veterans of all the allied nations, because without them we would be living under the horde of Nazism.

The raping of nearly the entire female population to destroy their lineage is normal from the majority of soldiers from all sides? No. There's a reason the Nazi's wanted to surrender to the Western Allies and not the Soviets.

The raping of Nanking is the only other atrocity during that era that is as bad or worse that I'm aware of.

That's like saying a child rapist would rather be arrested by the police than be handed over to the child's family where the family won't be punished for doing anything they want to the rapist.

Comparing what the Western Allies went through to what happened on the Eastern front is a joke.

The Germans decided it was a solid strategy. Actually, raping the entire female population would be several degrees less than what the Nazis did and were planning to do in the east.

Besides, if there was any people who deserve anything bad that happened to them (and far beyond what happened in the FRG), it was the Germans. The whole starting two world wars and setting in motion the creation of the Soviet Union mean that the Germans forfeited the right to be treated as human beings.

Just out of curiosity. Do anyone one here have a History Degree? Where do you get your knowledge from? I get mine mostly from the History book I teach at my school and some stuff I learned in college taking History courses. I am taking a History course for my job in September. You have to be highly qualified to teach the subjects I teach. Which is funny, becasue I work at a jail. But because I give HS grades. I have to be highly qualified to teach all for subjects. because I teach all subjects; most HS teachers only teach one subject and they have a credential in that subject. They are already highly qualified, so I am looking forward to the History classes my district is offering to get us some what highly qualified.

That is BS, if the Germans were not treated so badly after WWI. Hitler would have never came to power. The Germans are a very prideful people, so when they were blamed for the war and all the other crap. That is what started to the ball rolling. If they were treated just a little bit better, Hitler would not have gain power. He gain power because he used that "I will make you a power house again crap"! And the Germans bought into. It wasn't until later on that they realize Hitler was a nut and even the German Generals try to kill him.

When your in the army, sometimes you gotta pull 24 hour Staff Duty, there is not much to do besides answer the phone, visit a few key areas, and read military History books. I polished off a WWII and Korean War Encyclopedia, I probably would have read the Vietnam one too if i had not been medically separated.

You're taking it out of context. The reply to me was that raping of entire populations was common place by all armies. I disagree. The raping of Berlin and Nanking were the worst mass rapes that I'm aware of during the WWII era. You could also include the mass rapes of Polish women by the Red Army. Their behavior is why I'm fine not honoring the Soviets at the Yalta memorial.

Obviously the concentration camps and mass exterminations were the worst atrocity, but Tyler and I weren't talking about them.

I am German and do not sympathize with the Nazis. But oh well. So I guess all nations are Evil. England, Italy, Japan, USA? All did bad things as country. Every Country has something they are not proud of, and Hitler is Germany's. But to say that all Germany was bad, becasue of Hitler. Well that is crack up. If it wasn't for a lot of Germans helping the Allies they would have had a hell of a time winning the war. To be honest if you do more studying of other nations and power houses. You would be pretty shocked to see what they have done over time. The Romans, Babylonians and Assyrians. All very bad and did very bad things to people. There is no doubt that Hitler was bad, but you have a lot of learning to do my friend.
