    Yes, they should.

Unless the guy's name is something odd, like Dryhumper.

Re: Should your wife take your last name?

Absolutely yes. I'm the last male in my family with my name. She took it as her dutch name is longer than the name she took.

If we hyphonated it it would be like 30 letters long or so.

The pressure to have a son is on to keep the family name alive.

I voted YES but it wouldn't be a huge issue, I'd want to know why. I think for professional reasons are good enough.

The guy that posted its law here in Canada? What? I have no idea what you are talking about. My wife took my name and changed all of her ID, SIN #, Passport, divers license, health card etc.

Or those that must have the wife take their last name are a bit too self conscious and lacking in self-esteem. Whichever way one looks at it..

I find the entire discussion interesting only because I never thought people would care so strongly one way or another. To me, it seems like such a minor detail in the grand scheme of life.

          It's a line from Scrubs.

As for me I would like her to take the name, but i wouldn't care if she didn't.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

I'm getting married next month. There is no way I would let my woman keep her last name. Kind of a kick in the balls if you ask me. Come on guys, man up.

I expected it to be one way or another...it's a societal norm that's existed for a long time, so to expect a majority to not care would be odd IMO

What does being a man have to do with her keeping her last name?

It's a tradition, a symbollic gesture, and something I value. I hope to find someone who sees the value in it I see.

A man's last name is everything. It's an insult if she doesn't accept that.

I will go out on a limb and say the vast majority of men would raise an eyebrow if the woman they wanted to marry said she didnt want to have his last name. I think those who say it doesnt bother them are probably in the minority.

So if your wife had a lot of pride in her last name, who cares?

I see no reason why they should have to do anything.

I told my wife - because she doesn't like my last name - if she doesn't want to take it, she doesn't have to. I really couldn't care less. A name means literally nothing.

She still took it, and it certainly makes things a ton easier when you don't have different last names... But I see no reason a woman should have to do anything, really.

LOL, I never said it was. I think it's funny that apparently the only thing men have is just a word, a title.
