I did Chest/Shoulders & Triceps today, the first workout of phase II and boy, did it kick my rump! I really didn't expect it to be as hard as it was. I was practically done 15 minutes into the video. The variations and speeds of pushups are ridiculous.

I was definitely blindsided, especially after feeling like I've gotten used to the workouts.

Anyone have suggestions on the pull-up bar? The P90x brand one looks good, but I've heard there are some other pretty good and cheaper ones - like some Iron something that's popular.

I just got the box today, but I haven't gotten the weights or pullup thing yet.

Is it as good as the official one? I've found them for pretty cheap on various sites - but I want to make sure I grab the better of the two. I also don't have very big door frames except in my garage/kitchen entrance - but I don't know if one is better for narrower frames or not.

Core was fun, but my god it's tough. If you actually squeeze the core muscles during the workout, it's borderline impossible. I'll admit I cheated a few times here and there, but man it's a tough workout. I'd put it up there with Plyo, maybe even tougher than Plyo.

yay, and we get to do it twice this week... sigh... so i actually got on the scale... have lost 10 lbs since i started this thing. sweeeeeeet.

IMO plyo should be the toughest workout in all of P90X. Don't give yourself as much rest as they do in the video.

If you're not dead by the end of it then you're not pushing yourself hard enough. If you truly explode on every move like your life depended on it then you probably won't be able to finish the entire workout until the 2nd month. There should be some dry-heaving and the general "I feel like my chest is gonna explode and my legs turn to jello" type of feel to it.

Unfortunately I'm confined by my living space and where I do my workouts so I can't jump as far as I'm capable of.

Well, that excuse and my core is probably weak right now.

Haha, that's definitely a problem with P90X. The first time I went through it I did the plyo on my 3rd floor apartment which is the top floor of a home built in the 1800s. Needless to say I couldn't jump high, hard or far.

The second time around I did it at the gym (wrote down all the moves) and holy crap.

How much is the pull up bar used? I am thinking about starting this but I have no door jam to use a pull up bar.

I am thinking about getting a YMCA membership in Columbus so I have a place to play basketball which would remedy this.

never mind - I just ordered the Iron Gym bar.

Any suggestions on weights? It says to grab a whole set, but I can't see myself needing that. Will just regular hexagonal 5, 10, 15, 20lb ones probably work to start with? I can't see myself using much more than that for now. Or are there certain weights I should grab and others I should ignore? Like 5lbs doesn't seem worth getting.

The only time I used 5 pounds was for the weighted arm circles and 10-15 pounds for a few other shoulder excersises (anything with straight arms). With the exception of some of the back excersises (heavy pants and lawn mowers), up to 25 or 30 should be good for at least now. I used 35 on some of the curls and for alternating shoulder presses at the end.

For lawn mowers, I found that even at 50 pounds I was doing 15 reps before I got tired.

If you went (10, 15, 20, 25, 30) x 2 you are looking at 200 pounds. Typically you pay $1 a pound so you are looking at $200. There are some adjustable sets out there that may be a little more $250-$300, but will give you up to 50 pounds x 2. If you can afford the additional money, it may be a better investment down the road. (If you add a 35 pound set, you adding another $70).
