    Re: P90X

Apostle, you have to listen to your body. The people on the p90x videos are in tip top shape. Most of the people watching the DVDS are not. Especially during the first 4 weeks it is important to pace yourself. If you can't do every one of the exercises or do as many reps as they are, it is perfectly normal.

I did Stretch X this morning in place of Yoga. I can't do all of the stretches the way they do. But my goal is to get more flexible over the course of the program and eventually I should be able to do them all. I can't get discouraged when I have to sit some of them out because I just can't do them yet. I love to work hard when I'm working out, but I have to be careful not to do too much, too soon. Which I did in the past.

Got a question for you guys that have done the program at least once. My wife and myself are looking to start this within the next week. Both of us are not fat, but have never really worked out seriously. I"m 6' 2" about 225 and my wife is 5' 2" and --- lbs. Are there any suggestions for a first timer tackling this program? We are really committed to doing it but we don't really know what to expect. Any tips would be great!!!
Don't blame me for what those nitwits said...They don't speak for me!!!

Modify the moves and listen to your body is what has worked for me so far. You will be amazed at how quickly you improve at each workout from week to week. Good luck.

Week two is in the books and I really feel good. Put on a pair of jeans straight out of the dryer and took a couple of steps and they almost fell off. Cant wear any of my pants without a belt to hold them up.

Energy is improving and just over all feeling of wellness if you know what i mean.

Did skip the last day of cardio this week just had some family drama but I might do it today to make up.

Hope you all are doing well and take care.

Nice work Bullit! Just to confrim you are doing Power90 aren't you?

I have done the full p90x program but i came from a lifting/cardio background and it still really kicked my ***! For someone in your position lilloreo I'd suggest doing Power90 first then graduating to P90X. I know people have jumped stright into the p90x program from nothing and had results but it really is supposed to be for advanced people (hence the X for xtreme version of the orginal power90 program) so for new people to fitness P90 might be the better choice imo. Going from nothing to working out for over an hour per day like in p90x often leads to people burning out too and quitting or hurting themselves.

At the end of the day everyone is different and you do you but that's what i generally suggest with these programs.

^^^^ Yes I am doing Power90. I did come from an Army background and played soccer in my day. But I have been fairly inactive for years. It just seemed to be a better transition for me than going straight back to the hardcore training. In my twenties or even early thirties I would not have thought twice. Just celebrated my 43rd this week and the body just does not recover or bend like it used to. LOL

My girlfriend is doing it with me to so it is the perfect level for her as well. For those really out of shape or just needing a jump on point I do highly recommend starting at this level. It is a nice moderate low impact exercise program that really has shown me good results so far. It is also very easy to make the exercises harder and more challenging. More reps/ more weight etc.

Tomorrow I start week 3 with weights and believe it or not I am actually looking forward to it. Good work folks and keep checking in.

I think I dropped about 10lbs. yesterday. Did Kenpo in the morning followed by Ab Ripper, since we skipped it on Saturday after Legs & Back. Then had a city league basketball game where only 5 guys showed so we had no subs the entire game. Then I went out to a local high school to play basketball with some local guys like I do almost every Sunday for 2.5 hours. I was dead last night.

                        -Hour of Kenpo X
                        -15 minutes of Ab Ripper
-Hour of city league basketball game
-2.5 hours of basketball directly after game

I missed the last two days for a few reasons:

                          1) My body was pretty worn out from the first 5 days because I went from 0 to p90x.
                          2) I had a golf tourney earlier Saturday morn and no time to workout.
                          3) Sunday was still tired and then decided to skip and just watch the UK/UNC game.

I think I'm going to do Ken Po tonight and then get back on schedule until I leave for the Final Four on Friday. That weekend will probably be no workouts and probably not the greatest eating, but I'll try to limit my bad intake. I've lost 4 pounds in the first week and missed two days and had some pizza. Not too shabby.

                              Bad News:

I still haven't started the program over yet. No biggie for me, as I am being smart and letting my back heal. It's just about there, and despite how bad I want to get going with the program, waiting it out is the best thing for me and my long term success right now.

                              Good News:

I am still dropping weight. Five weeks ago, I weighed in at 272. That was after a very bad weekend of eating and drinking a few too many beers. This morning, I weighed in at 251.5, and the two solid weeks of P90x really helped with that, but my nutrition has been extremely clean during that time. Lots of protein, lots of veggies and fruit. No eating after 8 PM...

My guess is that my back acted up due to the influx of weight I had put on, and the new exercise routine. I did not ease myself into the program and hit it pretty hard because I wanted to see results so quickly -- wrong move for me. Now, my back feels about 75 percent and it's getting better every day. I've had to restrain myself from starting back up because finishing this program is something that I will do and I'm excited to get started again...

As for now though, my goal is to be 240-245 before starting back up, and making sure that my back is pain free before beginning. I know doing that will help ensure success for me both in the interim and the long term.

Almost there... Just need to stay positive, patient, and keep up the good nutrition habits that I've been practicing.

P90x will be there when my body (back) is ready.

Small setback guys. I took yesterday and probably today off to. Really feeling under the weather. Had a weird occurrence Tuesday. We had a big dinner and went for a walk, got a small ice cream(my big weakness) and walked back home. Just about to our door and my heart just started racing and fluttering. Lasted for about a minute and scared the jeebers out of me.

Ended up going to the hospital ER and had a bunch of test run. Two different blood tests and an EKG and all of that and they said everything looked good. Absolutely no sign of a heart attack or problems. Going to have a stress test done monday. Last night after dinner with my parents it happened again this time lasted a little longer. Did not go to the hospital .

Do have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have no family history of heart problems, so everybody is just leaning toward this being stomach related. So anyway I am going to take it easy for a day or two and then get back in the swing.
