As the sun ages it will become hotter and will in turn heat up the Earth. In about 1-2 billion years the Earth will become to hot to sustain life and the oceans will begin to evaporate. A few billion years after that the Sun will exhaust the hydrogen fuel in its core and swell to a red giant engulfing and incinerating Mercury, Venus, and possibly Earth.

Heh. I remember hearing that on a filmstrip when I was 4-5 years old and bawling my eyes out.

I guess a better question would be, "How will humanity end?"

Aliens: "Maybe we can live on this planet as well."

So the Earth will still be around when the Sun goes supernova and engulfs it? Okay

IMO I think we're talking about humanity so i'd say either bio warfare. I don't think the idea of nuclear holocaust is credible anymore. We're a pretty tenacious species. There'll be some who survive.

I also think an alien invasion would signal our end as well.

The sun will eventually destroy the Earth, but the Earth will probably destroy us in a way that jurors would consider "self-defense". I.E., Swine flu, HIV, etc.....

Actually, the Sun is not sufficiently massive to undergo a supernova explosion.Once the Sun exhausts the hydrogen in its core, it will expand into a red giant and begin fusing helium in its core while hydrogen fusion continues in a shell around the helium fusing core. Once the helium is exhausted in the core, the sun will again expand and begin casting off its outler layers as eventually leaving behind a cooling white dwarf star about the mass of the Earth.

If we are defining World as Human Civilization, then I think it will be a combination of things. These would include but not be limited to ecological catastrophe, depletion of resources, and war.
