Re: The moment that changed your life forever
Well, with any luck I just had mine a few minutes ago. It's early and I don't have the final grade etched in stone, but I've added up the points and I think I've passed my senior seminar, the only thing standing between me and my B.S. in Computer Information Systems. I'm edjumacated!!
School has been my life for as long as I can remember...and I think it may finally be over. -

Re: The moment that changed your life forever
The day my first son was born. That is when I finally had to grow and be a man and start taking care of my family. Before that day I was just skating by life as an Instructional Aide. My wife taught full time! Sure it is was great getting home at 11am and only working 3 hours a day and then play the Dreamcast until 3pm.But when my son came I had to go back to school and get my degree and my Masters. So that is what I did. Now in Feb I will have my second Masters. So I guess it is all good. Also you sure like to start a lot of threads. I must say must of them have been really good too. You have a gift!

Re: The moment that changed your life forever
Moving out of my parents house, but that might be the only thing that pops into my head since I just read your other thread.
Maybe agreeing to take out a $25,000 loan and become GM and part owner of a Sonic? Seemed somewhat stupid to my friends but it worked out very well.Comment

When my best friend died (see signature).
Not to say I've been a completely different person ever since, but I've changed toward one of those "sweetest guys you'll ever meet in your life." He sort of taught me that. I am very happy I didn't go down any dangerous roads, and he helped me in that regard both when he was alive and after he died.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: The moment that changed your life forever
Same here. Mine passed away four and a half years ago back in July of 2005. We had known each other and been best friends for 13 years. The last three years of his life he rented an apartment two blocks from my house and saw each other almost daily so we were closer than ever when he passed. He was one month shy of his 25th birthday and died from kidney failure due to alcoholism. I have really cut down and drinking and partying since then but have also become a lot more bitter towards things as well. It's very difficult to put into words, but I'm just "different" now.Comment

Re: The moment that changed your life forever
I've had many, but without a doubt meeting my wife in the 10th grade and the birth of my son in 95.
My family moved down to Columbus Ohio from Detroit after my brother Anthony was killed on our front porch in 77. I went from Detroit s east side to Mayberry. At the time I was involved in gangs and had some issues with the law. My mom was registering me into my new High School in Columbus when I saw my future wife working in the school's office. She was a 4.0 student and very quite. I was the exact opposite. Matter of fact I was suspended a few minutes after my mom registered me for hitting a guy in the face for welcoming to the school.I was a knucklehead. My future wife had no use for me at all. If I wanted to talk to her I needed an attitude adjustment in a hurry. Long story short, she changed my early life. We've been married 28 years.
My wife and I had always wanted to start a family but decided to wait because of my duty assignments as a US Army Ranger. Then I was wounded badly in Somalia,October of 93. I spent a year and a half rehabbing and in that time went to the active reserves. My wife gave birth to our son in 95. I have lost family and many friends to premature deaths. If it wasn't for my wife and son I believe I would have become a statistic or a raging alcoholic.
Two bad events led me to the best two things in my life.
The two joys of my life this past Thanksgiving.

Re: The moment that changed your life forever
There have been several......
1. The entire year of 1991, when my Father, only Grandfather, and a close family friend who was like a Father/Grandfather all died. First my Grandfather died of complications from Alzheimers. Second, the friend committed suicide when his cancer came out of remission. Third, my father died from a pneumonia made worse by his leukemia. It was at the age of 12 I became an atheist of the Abrahamic gods and basically had to grow up way before my time.
2. January 1998 when I destroyed my knee playing football after the great Ice Storm. I went to catch a pass and my cleat stuck in the ground, causing my knee to dislocate and a bone to break off. That ended my college lacrosse career very early on and then when I asked about transferring my coach blackballed me to other schools. I nearly transferred to Merrimack College who was the only school who showed a renewed interest but in the end chose to stay with my girlfriend at St. Michael's.
3. The Summer of 2000. After years of rehabbing and playing club lacrosse for the Magic Hat Brewery in Vermont I was offered a lacrosse contract in Australia. The deal was I would play the company club team while having a token job with an inflated salary. They were very eager for me to come, but Julie and I had planned a cross country trip for her graduation so I declined the contract, as well as an internship with The Gap's corporate headquarters. I was planning on asking Julie to marry me on her birthday that year as we had been together 4 years, but we broke up in August of that year. Fortunately in September I reconnected with the girl I nearly left Julie for a couple years prior and now we are married with a wonderful son. I guess professionally I made all the wrong choices but it worked out in the end.Comment
