So on Christmas my sister decides to dump her fiance of 2 years. Which means she calls me and says I cannot come over and see my niece and nephew at all. Despite the fact that I spent $500 on them combined with an ipod touch for my niece and a PS3 for my nephew. When I try to push the issue my sister sends a profanity laced tirade my way via text. When I reply to her that I think her fiance is the fortunate one I get another profanity laced tirade from her ex-fiance who apparently still is living with her. So I'm 0 for 2.

Fast forward to the day after Christmas. My stepmothers birthday is today. So I jokingly post the following Seinfeld quote on my stepsisters facebook:

“Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic lives, this is who we areto the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing.”

To which I get the following reply:

"All I have to say to you is that I have the best Mom in the world and why she ever felt bad for you last Christmas and tried to appologize to you is beyond me. Your the biggest pvssy I've ever meet in my life. Your such a waste to society. I could care less if your ugly @ss ever dropped off the face of this earth. No one cares about you!! Deal with it!!!!"

So I've been cussed out now by 3 different people this Christmas and honestly I have no real idea why. This has been the worst Christmas I think i've ever had and it's disheartening. I don't understand why there is so much hatred from folks during the holiday season, especially relatives. It's very hard to take.

Everytime I think my life can't get anymore screwed up, I read an ODOGG post.

Its been a relatively quiet year for the most part on my end. I have had some doozies too.

I would have probably done the same thing and probably more. I would leave them alone. It sounds like your step-sister is a real tool, and I'll guess so is her mom. I don't know though. Also, your sister seems to have to be the center of attention. If she doesn't get her way she won't let it go.

Also, someone said mail the gifts to the children. What's the point of getting the nephew and niece gifts if you can't personally give them to them. ODogg I respect what you did, and just lay low until she can come around and apologize.

That's funny and a little ironic that you would edit my post like that, since it was pretty much the same thing Odogg did in his OP where he took a quote from a TV show and applied it in jest as a post on the internet where it was apparently, misunderstood.

I think the issue is more on his family than it is on himself. He may be partly to blame, but his family seems (no offense) crazy.

I'm willing to bet that ODogg grew up as the hard-working, smart kid who wasn't the most popular guy. His sister was probably a "cool" kid, probably got her way a lot with her parents, and probably wasn't the nicest person to ODogg. Converted to adulthood, the people stayed the same, and ODogg came out much better for it. Good job, financial security, etc. His sister probably expected the real world to be much easier. Chances are that she didn't work hard because she thought things would be handed to her in life. Well, now you have a jealous sister who envies ODogg's life and things, and that's how these issues keep popping up.

Or I could be completely wrong.

I gotta say, knowing ahead of time that the Mom was annoyed with getting the iPod Touch and still going through with it, was a bad idea. Just making drama needlessly IMO.

Yep, that is how I see this whole situation. Like I said before 2 wrongs don't make a right. Odogg you do what ever you have to do. But I still think you can just still be nice all the time. And try to see their side to the problem too. 99% of problems are just misunderstandings. Good luck with what ever you decide to do. You have some good advice in here you can use and then you have some advice that will make it worst in my opinion, but either way the choice is yours.

You may not want to joke with these people...I have stuff I'd say to friends and my parents that the rest of my family could see as an insult because they don't get it.

I personally had no idea that was a Seinfeld quote, so if someone put that on my facebook I'd be a little "WTF?"....gotta know your audience when being witty, otherwise you look like a jackass

I dont agree with a lot that ODogg did but I cant disagree more with this line of thinking. First off, the sister sounds like she would have been annoyed with anything he got the child as the Mom didnt have it herself and you cant just flush a kids Christmas down the toilet for total fear that the Mother will revert back to childhood instead of acting her age. The gifts themselves arent the issue imo.

I think it is more the fact that the mom was not happy with the gift. If my sister told me not to get her kid something and I went and still got them that gift. I think I am in the wrong in my opinion.
