Re: What are YOU going to do with your tax return money ?

nothing, as my wife's former job left a nice little F.U. in her W2 so now we'll most likely be paying the government money we don't have. Yeah out of $6,000 only $150.00 gets taken out for taxes? sure, ok.Last edited by LionsFanNJ; 01-29-2010, 05:43 PM.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Just got my w-2's, and although my wife's job didn't take anything out of her checks all year (and she didn't think to notice it, lol)... we're still going to get a little bit back. Not much, but a little. Probably enough to buy the couch we desperately need, and save the rest of it.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: What are YOU going to do with your tax return money ?

I already got my $357 return from the state, and my $4,211 return from the feds will arrive in the next week or two. I bought my first house back in 2007, and when I got it the boiler/furnace was old, but still had some time left. This winter, I've been burning through oil pretty quickly and when I go downstairs I smell a lot of sooty air. When the boiler/furnace was inspected last year, the guy said that it was definitely on the downside and that the container where the hot water sits was falling downwards. (Or something like that. It's been a while since it was explained).

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that no matter what I set my thermostats at, the heat in the house never really gets to that level. Then, suddenly, the heat will come on and the house will get nice and comfortable for a few hours, then it will turn off again. The worst is my bedroom which is upstairs. Typically, when I wake up in the morning, the thermostat shows that it's only 51 degrees in my bedroom even though the temperature is set to 67 degrees! So my boiler/furnace is definitey dead and I'll need to replace it. So there goes my tax return and probably a thousand dollars or so of my savings. That's only if it's just the boiler/furnace that's screwed up. If the pipework that carries the warm water throughout the house is also screwed up, then I'm in some trouble because I don't think I have enough money to cover the massive cost those repairs would entail, and I'd be forced to put it all on my credit card and be financially screwed for a while.

To make things worse, my health has been deteriorating quite a bit and I now have that to worry about. I came down with the flu at the very end of last year through the first week of this year. I was put on anti-virals to kill the flu virus, which worked great, but my weakened state led to the development of bronchitis and a sinus/ear infection. So I was put on some antibiotics for two weeks. The antibiotics, I believe, are what wreaked havoc on my lower bowels as I was shooting out Folger's coffee while taking the antibiotics. The thing that kind of bothers me, however, is that the sore throat I was developing which made me think I had a sinus infection never really went away. It lowered in intensity for a little while, but has come back really strong. My tonsils are a deep blood red in color, as is the tissue around it. My right tonsil has these weird red strands on them like pieces of string. The glands in the side of my neck are swelling up quite a bit, and the constant nausea and loose bowels is getting me worried. I work in the pharmaceutical industry, so I see a lot of cases of some pretty nasty conditions in the patient data I review, so of course I'm probably thinking that I'm coming down with something that I'm probably not. (I don't have a fever). Even without the fever, the sore throat for 3 weeks, the swollen glands in my neck, the pain that is constant and occassionally spreads into my ears, the nausea, the lack of appetite, the lower bowel issues, and just a feeling of "blah" makes me concerned. I've been a Type I Diabetic for 27.5 years now, and a lot of these feelings I have are a LOT like what it feels like when I'm hyperglycemic. Especially the constant thirst. But the thing is, my blood sugars have been golden lately. So I have no idea what this problem is and I'm trying to find a doctor I can see on the weekend as I'm too busy at work to take time off. Ugggggh. So with the boiler/furnace problem and this illness hitting me, things ain't going so great. Comment

Re: What are YOU going to do with your tax return money ?

Heh, lots of stuff actually. I'm planning on some nice heirloom tomatoes, probably cucumbers, and a wide variety of herbs... I love having fresh produce around at all times, so I'm going to use the indoor garden for some of that. I'm gonna have a large above-ground "square-foot garden" box outside in the backyard too for root veggies (carrots, hopefully some potatoes, squashes), so I should be pretty stocked on produce come late Summer. I really want to grow a lemon tree, but CO isn't really the place for that... maybe I can do a small one indoors.

Nothing more rewarding than growing your own stuff, whatever it may be. :wink:Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

I'm getting $2,100 back overall. I'm going to put a lot of it towards my car payment as I'm trying to pay that off, still have a long way to go. Anything left will me used for whatever my wife see fit. Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - Bulls Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: What are YOU going to do with your tax return money ?

Hmm... I usually get around $4000 back, but I'm pretty sure that my wife and I filled out our W4's correctly so that we get the least taken out of our paychecks (filing jointly and we both listed each other as dependents...I suppose I could list myself and her and she could list herself and me though). Same theory...we don't want the government to handle our money throughout the year that we could invest.Comment
