I think I may take what trevytrev said into consideration. Taxes eliminate about 20 percent of my check every two weeks. I'm getting a very nice amount back this year but I would much rather have the money throughout the year as opposed to a large amount once a year.

Damn, I can't believe some of you guys getting $1,000+. I'll be lucky if I get anything. I don't know too much about taxes, but how are you getting so much on your return?

1000+? I'm getting just a hair over 10g's back. House, kids, and claiming 0 with dependents helps.

I usually get around $1500 back but this year I'm not expecting much. I made $4K off my website this year, so I'm going to have to pay taxes on that income. So that'll hurt my return money.

Im only getting $490 but my girlfriend files single and 0 so shes getting somewhere around $1200 back which will go directly into a new TV as Im tired of the 30" CRT Ive got now. While its HD, I want something with more HDMI inputs, better picture and smaller in size so out with the old and in with the new. Hopefully I can sell the CRT HDTV and put it towards the TV so I can get a bigger size but Im not holding my breath on that one.

Probably only getting a couple hundred.

May spend it on a new iPod touch or a new TV (despite already having a 22" and 26" HDTV).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with mine. I got married in June and since I got married my wife hasn't had a job but she did have one up til we got married and I've worked all year. So should I file a joint or separate tax return?

I'm gonna do 2 chicks at the same time....

I usually just put it in my bank account and use it when I need it. Thankfully my job's paying me well enough to be saving regularly, so it's not like I need a chunk of cash for something specific. Plus I try to keep big purchases to a minimum, I manage my money fairly well.

I say file jointly. Why? Because I had the same issue YEARS AGO and my tax guy said we would get more back. I have no idea why. I'm not a tax guru.
Edit; I found this. It seems like a good answer.

Filing as head of household (finally getting married February 12) and having a kid helps. I just picked up my check yesterday (federal) to the tune of $4700. Went out and finally picked up a new 360 along with ME2. Just gotta finish paying off my truck, and put the rest away for now.

Still waiting for another $500 from state, and my fiance is getting back another $1500 between federal and state as well.

You are having too much money taken out of your check. You should reduce the amount removed from your check and put it in a interest bearing account rather then letting the federal gov't keep it for you without paying you interest.

Seriously...if you're getting more than 1k back then you need to look at your tax setup and make some adjustments...they're taking way too much out for you.
