    Re: Insanity

    Sorry for another post but,
is there a difference between "Cardio circuit" and "plyometric cardio circuit?"
Its telling me that tomorrow is Cardio Circuit but I dont see a DVD for that, only the plyometric cardio circuit.

      Re: Insanity

For pure cardio and cardio abs, I HIGHLY recommend you do cardio abs first. It shows it second, but the first time I tried it, I had absolutely nothing in the tank after pure cardio, so my form was atrocious during cardio abs. I do cardio abs first, and I actually take it easier on the warmup than the video says, only because pure cardio is so crazy demanding.

Question 2, yeah, it's just the plyo circuit. There are some older versions of the calender floating around that just say cardio circuit, but the calendar that came with mine only has plyo cardio circuit.

Same deal with the basketball drills in the plyo circuits. 3 sets of the basketball jumps, ski abs, and in and outs are so hard. I like the idea of pure cardio, that you only do one exercise for an extended period of time.

Is the intensity of month 2 the same, or are the breaks longer? If it's the same, I could see it being harder, as especially by the end of pure cardio, i'm toasted, and it would take some serious digging to get through another 15 or so minutes. Either way, can't wait!

Power cardio and resistance in t-minus 15 minutes or so. Whenever this granola bar decides to digest and I can drop a quick deuce
there are definitely more exercises shaun t. fits in between the 30-second breaks. the intensity is about the same, although there are more exercises that are considered "max" intensity. there are some where he combines different moves that are just crazy, like ski abs/in and outs/push up jacks all in one.

its rough at first but i feel as if my body has adapted itself to it and now i take only a couple breaks the whole time. btw im a high school senior doing this for soccer and i feel insanity has benefited me more than any distance running or speed drills ive done.

Thanks man. I'm sure the first few days of month 2 will be a shock to the system, as i'm pretty drained at the end of the month 1 workouts, but i'm sure i'll have the adrenaline pumping as well. Do you feel like the recovery week between months did more harm than good? I haven't looked at the workout, but i'm hoping it's not too easy or anything, as I don't want to lose anything before heading into month 2.

I had actually thought about this relating to high school sports, or really any level. I wish this program had been around back before 2005, as I 100% would have used it in preparation for football, and mainly the first few double session practices of the season. That's the closest thing I can compare to Insanity. I remember wanting to die during double sessions.

              Re: Insanity

So after completing plyo cardio today, i'm pretty sure it's my least favorite workout. The circuit in the beginning of the workout is fine, and I can get a good sweat going with that. But with the basketball drills circuit, the basketball jumps burn me out so bad, and then I spend half of the ski abs/in and out abs just laying on the floor. It's harder for me to get my heart rate up during the circuit, and as a result, I feel like i'm not getting as good of a workout.

I mean, I obviously KNOW i'm getting a good workout, as my heartrate is consistently around 170-175, but in the other workouts, i'm up over 180 during the circuits. Pure cardio keeps me up over 180 almost the entire workout.

Starting this tonight after being on and off of P90x the last month or so. Preliminary plan is to complete Insanity and then start up the full p90x program right after this. Wish me luck.

When its time for the multiple workouts "Cardio, and Cardio abs" or whatever, how do you approach this?

Do you just do the workouts one right after the other?
I always do that. If I'm short on time, I'll put cardio abs on a different day, but also right after another workout. My wife skips the cooldown on the workout before she jumps into cardio abs and goes right into it too.....

It sounds stupid, but writing my initial on the calendar every day and feeling guilty if I don't has kept me strong. Last summer I put on a bunch of weight because I stopped working out and replaced it with BBQ. This summer, I have stayed fit despite the fact that I still BBQ a steak almost every other day......

But I can't have a summer without being a slave to the grill. We had BBQ Pizza last night.....freaking good.

no problem. recovery week definitely didnt help me, but i think its necessary to give the knees a break from the pounding. i actually played basketball a few times that week and lifted, so i didnt lose much if any cardio strength.

What kind of results is everyone seeing? I'm going to start this next week.

I am interested, if you guys are ok with it, to hear the amount of weight lost, inches shed, and what how many days in.

                      Thanks.

I haven't checked inches or what not, but I can tell you everything else. I'm in week 4 at the moment. I started at 195 lbs. I gained 2 pounds the first week and a half or so, which I can only assume was some good muscle gains in my legs, as I had little to none to start with. Since then, i've dropped about 6 pounds. Everything has tightened up like crazy so far. Chest, stomach, and legs have all gotten some definition, and my arms have seen some improvements as well, mostly in my forearms, which are now ripped. Honestly, not much bicep work, but this isn't a muscle building program.

It took a couple weeks, but now that I can push harder in the videos, i'm starting to see more and more changes in my body. The wife notices as well, which is always a plus. The best part is dropping the belt sizes. It's been ages since I fit into a 34 size pant comfortably, but I may need to buy some. My pairs of 36's are crazy loose now.

That's what i'm worried about. I don't want to be sucking wind the entire time at during the first workout in week 2. Makes me almost want to throw in a pure cardio in the middle of the week, but i'm not sure it's recommended.

Lol my body is stupid. For the first few weeks I didn't lose anything and actually gained a few lbs then I step on the scales this morning and boom I lost 3kg (6.6lbs) in the last week. I don't know if it's just because I have been playing closer attention to my cals or what but I'll take it.

I did cardio abs and pure cardio yesterday. I love that pure cardio workout. It does a great job of keeping my heart rate elevated for the full workout (except the stretching of course) but never has a section where I can't at least sort of keep up. Cardio recovery up this arvie.

I feel ya on the pure cardio. It's easily my favorite. Just when you are almost to the point of feeling burned out, he hits you with something like mountain climbers, which are easier, yet keep your heart rate up. Then he finishes you off with I believe burpees, and with it being the last and hardest workout, my adrenaline gets pumping for me to finish it off strong.

Definite contrast to cardio recovery. This is my face while trying to hold the squat position before squat pulses:

                                Ahaha good stuff man!

It's interesting to wear a heart rate monitor doing these workout's and seeing when you heart rate goes up and down. Sometimes it'll go way up in an exercise that feels relatively easy (like say the frog jumps) then it'll go down a bit doing another exercise that seems pretty hard (like the jack pushup things for example).

Overall so far the pure cardio workout does the best job of getting my heart rate right up there (165-170bpm+) and keeping it there for nearly the whole workout without me needing to really stop.

It's also the one where you get to see the Asian woman saying "Uhhh my hair is so wet" which is pretty hot as well.
