Back in May, I fell asleep for like 5 seconds at the wheel on the interstate. Went over to the other lane and met up with a 18 wheeler. Both of us were going at least 70mph. Miraculously, all I touched where the big rig's wheels and got back control of my car. Blew out my passenger side window (glass everywhere but not a single piece on me) and messed up that side of my windshield. Not a scratch on the 18 wheeler and the cop didn't even file a report since I agreed it was my fault. Was $2000 in damage to my car, even though I was able to drive it home just fine (new passenger side door, new windshield, buffering out of rear passenger door + labor).

Considering I could have been a flapjack on I-77, things could have definitely been worse.
Geez, scary story. You really got lucky, all things considered.

Yeah, it'll be fine. I had a feeling something was wrong because I heard a humming noise when I accelerated, as well as a grating sound when I applied pressure to the brake pedal. Plus, the wheel alignment just didn't feel right.

One thing this incident has encouraged me to do is to be even more vigilant about saving money. You never know when something like this is going to pop up and take a big bite out of your wallet. What they say about saving for a rainy day is true.

Re: Can life just get worse for me?

I got my car back last week, so it feels good to put that part of my bad start to the year behind me. Now my busted right calf is continuing to bug me. Ugggh. Been going to physical therapy for a few weeks now, and OH MY GOD THAT HURTS! Wow! I mean, on a scale from 1-10, my pain has gone from a 6 with occassional spikes to 7, down to a 4 with spikes up to 6. At therapy, they've been doing some massages to the calf muscle and noticed a large bundle of scar tissue deep within my calf muscle. So they're trying to break that up so that it can heal properly and give me back the range of motion it should have. I initially thought that the trip over my blanket caused the injury, but the therapists have told me that the injury was a long term, multiple build up over quite a few years.

The worst part is that they said it's going to be a nagging injury for quite a few months until it fully heals properly. So this pain will annoy the living hell out of me for a while. My pain medication prescription is out, so hopefully my doctor can order a refill on Friday when I have a follow-up appointment. Damn.

Just be happy you only hit a brick wall and not another vehicle. Could you imagine that?
