Yeah, if I was in a city, I'd rather have automatic. But I love cruising a five-speed on country roads.

I did the same thing. My step-dad bought his buddy's 5-speed '97 Ford Ranger just a few days after I turned 16. He drove it home and we went strait to the school parking lot so I could learn how to get out of neutral then to the local park so I could learn to actually drive it.

To help me learn how to get out of neutral on steep hills at red lights/stop signs, he parked the truck on the steepest hill he could find in the park (not THAT steep), got out of the truck, stood about 3 feet behind the tailgate, and said "get up the hill, and don't hit me." Talk about nerve-racking. You'll learn to master the brake, clutch, shift, gas sequence quite quickly that way.

Probably some of the most frustrating times of my life
I can remember going to drive my truck to school for the first time. I backed out of the driveway, shifted into first, and it wouldn't move. It wouldn't go forward and would just stall. I was like "What the hell? It's broken." I turned on the four ways and sat in the road like "oh no." Well, it turns out I never took off the parking brake. DOH!

When I lived upstate I enjoyed manual but living on LI with the stop and go traffic it has to be automatic now.

Auto for sure. I've driven 2 vehicles, both auto and I enjoyed both (and when your not paying for gas/maintenance gas mileage doesn't matter. :P)

                Re: Manual or Automatic.

In a truck, automatic. I have driven a 5 speed ford ranger since I have been driving and it just gets annoying at times. Even with 5 years of experience sometimes I will shift wrong or be in 3rd when I think I am in first. Plus, no cruise control in manual.

I have the same thing with my Infiniti.

Just test drove a bunch of the '10 model Audi's. They just don't do anything for me.

Gotta go with the auto plus manual shift option.

I learnt to drive on a manual but prefer auto's now. Guess i'm just too lazy to be bothered changing gears all the time.

Too much traffic and too many hills in Seattle to enjoy a manual. Auotmatic all the way.
