ODogg, I am sorry man. There is no way a grown man should be living off of only 1000 calories. I would suggest seeing a nutritionist in regards to this issue. I don't want you hurting yourself in the long run

since you feel that you are not overeating, then you need to burn more calories

try this out: do not sit down AT ALL at any point for the next week except for sleep obviously, stay on your feet and move around all day

see if that helps you burn more calories

not it isn't that simple. These guys are actually starving themselves and going into starvation mode. Below is very basic but it's not the numbers I want to argue with it's the principle.

Your body needs 1200 calories per day to survive.

-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)

If you bring your calories too low, your metabolism will slow down to keep up with your intake.

What you guys are doing is wrong. If you're obese and you're not loosing weight it might be because you're stalling your metabolism because you diet SUCKS! 1000 cal?? 575!?!?!? you're killing yourselves literally. I bet you don't feel too strong and feel light headed at times too.

You guys need to eat more and more often. Eat good foods often and work out like a mutherfudger. Weights and Cardio. If you can, also join a recreational sports league.

I agree that the cals are too low even though i feel the "starvation mode" myth is really overblown. Even when fasting during parts of the day i still get at least 1500 cals per day and usually more and dropping weight. I think if given the alternative you are better off eating a little more and burning more off with exercise rather than just not eating.

I def wouldn't advocate ODogg dropping his cals any further, it's just not sustainable or healthy in the long run. Maybe play around with your ratio's (lowering carbs) might help but i'd just stick with what you are doing as it's already worked well (ie losing 40lbs) so just stick with it.

FWIW when I was working out in the military I always did 10 mins stretching, 30 mins cardio, 30 mins lifting (including weighted crunches daily), 20 mins cardio, 10 mins stretching.....I was always paranoid of my weight because I wrestled in HS so I wanted to ensure I could gain the muscle I needed without adding any more size/weight then absolutely necessary.

I always preferred weights first then cardio myself. Weight lifting is way more strenuous than cardio imo so if i did cardio first my lifts would suffer imo.

disclaimer: I don't recommend anyone doing what I'm doing. I realize that my caloric intake is extremely low. I'm not trying to live until I'm 90, I'm trying to LOSE WEIGHT now. Once I get to my goal I'll eat more and continue to workout.

I had a science of aging class @ PSU where one day the instructor informed us him and his friends are on a 1,200 calorie diet due to research in caloric restriction and life longevity. It's tough to consume that little long term but he stressed the importance to hit 1,200.

250 this morning, down ~10 pounds. Looks like that 247 wasn't totally off. I don't feel any smaller though.

I'm craving some carbs today and today's my bday. I might get a 6 inch roast beef from Subway or I may go all out and hit a mexican restaurant for food and margaritas. I'm craving, and that's never good.

Word of advice on Subway, get double meat, assuming you're getting turkey, roast beef or ham of course. And get as many vegetables as you can get.

If you go to the mexican place don't get refried beans, get black beans. Eat a salad if you can before you eat your main course. Try to get chicken rather than steak. As for corn tortillas instead of flour. Drink as much water as you possibly can before you go there or before the food arrives.

I've done about 400 calories today (all bran cereal w/banana and 2% milk, a few pieces of lean deli him, about 10-15 grapes).

My goal is to aspire to the saying, eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.

As for the comments about the low calories, I'm doing 1000 to 1200 which is what i'm calculating, which means i'm probably actually about the 1200-1400 mark. My doctor knows what i'm doing and is in agreement with it. He just told me to make sure that my calories are "good" calories and not junk food, which they are.

Today for lunch I'll probably have fish, spinach and a grapefruit.

Oh yeah and always get your dressings at Subway and other places ON THE SIDE. That way you can put it on as much as you want. I find they drench the sandwich. This also works well too because the bun won't get soggy if you're taking it somewhere to eat.
