    That's New Yorkers for you.

And I probably would have said the same thing

The grind of taking the NY Subway System for over two hours everyday really takes its toll on you. Sometimes all you have on your mind is getting to that train, finding a seat, and closing your eyes. And if I see some lady hustling people out of a seat there's no way I'm getting up.

If she had just said "Can I please sit down?" I would gladly give up my seat, but not if she's going around looking for somebody to buy her story. Ask for the seat, and 10 times out of 10 it's yours, unless of course I'm already in mid-nap

I will only get up from my seat in the following scenarios:

      -She's pregnant (like 6+ months)

      -He/She is a senior citizen

Everyone else stands the entire ride as far as I'm concerned.

I avoid sitting in the "handicap" reserve seats...

Most likely I will offer my seat anyways, If a person asked, I'm saying no because if I didnt offer by then its a reason...I paid for a ticket too...

It's just how I was raised bro. Every guy I know would give their seat up to a female.

Same here. Even if she is hustling me for a seat I will still give it to her. Same with men, if they really want the seat, I don't mind by all means, I will give up my seat. If it can make them feel better for that certain time period then I know I helped somebody out and will make me feel better about myself. It also might be that I am young and don't mind standing for long period of times. That's just me though.

What? LOL!!! Why not also give her your wallet, your car, your house...

And, DC, if you wanna get the lady upset next time, just stand up and say out loud: "Oh, sorry, I didn't notice you're THAT old!"...

Or even better: "Oh, hi there. I remember you, you had some problems with your knee last time. Since I am a doctor, I'd like to examine your leg. So I'm gonna ask you to get off the train with me, and we'll go to my clinic and I'll examine your leg and your dizziness. Don't worry, it won't take too long"...

Re: Something I Have Been Experiencing On The Subway

Here's a short old (fictional) funny story I've once read:

The guy who's telling the story is quite a character. He's selfish, likes to annoy and take advantage of other people. And still, he's got some charm that makes you like him (he's been the main character in several short stories).
So the guy was saying that he's become religious. People asked him what happend that made him be religious, so he told them his story:

"I was sitting in a bus one time, when a 50-y/o woman was standing right next to me, looking at me and expecting me to give up my seat. I didn't feel like, so I pretended that I didn't notice her. She then asked me, and the people around started getting negative and upset with me, started talking and saying that I'm a bad person, and 'How can a young man behave like that?!" etc.. The atmosphere became negative and I felt like I'm the most hated person around. So eventually I gave up my seat and stood up. But people were still talking. So I started leaning and grabbing my leg, saying that I'm in pain and that I mustn't stand up because I have a serious injury in my leg. Suddenly people started staring at the woman I had given up my seat to, saying that she did an ugly thing, and all that. I felt really good about my self.
Oh, but here's the thing. When wanted to get of the bus, I tripped and fell on the stairs, and broke my leg. I felt like I got punished. Since then I believe in god".

It's hard for me to translate this story, but it was very funny to read in the origial language.

How do you know she wasn't dizzy the 2nd time? She might have a heap of health problems that you don't know about.

                            How long was the trip?

Oh, yeah, here's the easy way for people who don't care. Going on a bus/subway? Put on headphones and pretend to be sleepy. No one should bother you.

                                Bingo.

As someone else said, my mother has fibromyalgia as well and this woman may very well have it as well. My mother can have knee pains one day, neck pains the next, dizziness/fatigue the following day.

Gotta love people jumping to conclusions. "She's a liar! She's running a game!" Maybe she was telling the truth, maybe she wasn't. I would have no problem giving up my seat for an older person, male or female, if they tell me they're in pain or not feeling well. And this is coming from someone from Massachusetts who has ridden the T many times.
