Cats aren't on the same level as dogs to me, but they're still pets and shouldn't be getting killed because they accidentally unplugged a cord to a video game system.

My girlfriend's dad put down their cat by putting it in a suitcase and blasting the case with a shotgun. I just wanted to bring up an example that it's pretty normal to kill animals. People bring animals to the vet all the time to be put down via lethal injection. Death is a part of this existence.
That being said, the real issue I see with this story is why he killed the animal. If he shot it and buried it for a legitimate reason I couldn't argue with him. He killed an animal in a fit of rage, and the fact that he's willing to kill a small animal with his bare hands is definitely a red flag. Even though I'd put down an animal with a weapon, I wouldn't kill a cat with my bare hands. That brings a whole new intimacy and real violence to an event IMO.

Maybe someone should throw you against a wall! It doesn't matter what kind of animal it was, if you have no regard for an animal, you probably have no regard for anything! If something like that causes you to flare up like that you have a problem! My cat spilled a cup off the coffee table and it splashed up on my 46" flat screen! I was pissed but I didn't beat him, he just wasn't on my favorite list. He didn't mean it and he didn't know better, I still love him he's my boy! What would that guy have done if his GF's kid unplugged the cord? Would he have thrown him to teach them a lesson!?Controllers are $50 bucks a pop. Kittens are a dime a dozen. If anyone ever has trouble finding a stray kitten/cat they aren't looking hard enough.
On another note I really doubt he meant to kill the kitten when he threw it, probably just teach it a lesson.

LOL! She's the kindest little angel you'll ever meet ironically. Her dad is a big softie too (not physically, but personality). It's just how things are handled in the country with animals sometimes. I was trying to inject a dose of reality into this discussion before we start getting too sensitive over animals.. just my opinion.
I grew up in a small town, both parents grew up on farms. Animals were born and died regularly. It's nothing shocking in my opinion. Again, what was shocking about the death of that cat is the reason and action he took in doing it, not the fact that a cat died.
Another story. My parents had a baby kitten that chased my sister to the school bus as a kid. The bus ran the cat over and its guts were split out on the road. It was still alive and suffering. My dad had to pick it up and kill it with a hammer to put the poor thing out of its misery. Did he want to kill an animal? No. Was it the right thing to do? Absolutely. That cat was going to die painfully within the hour.
Animals die. That's not the concern with this story... it's the man's motives and actions.
EDIT: I guess I'm just trying to convey why some people may not be so sensitive to the fact that a small animal died. I was trying to string a good purpose together with this post, but it's kind of discombobulated.
And if you're wondering, I've never killed an animal in my life. I don't hunt/fish or any of that. So, it's not like I'm some gun-toting hunter trying to defend something. I've never even been in a fight.

Dude, I use to work on my uncle's ranch in the summers as a pre-teen to teen. I know you handle animal deaths differently in those situations.
But putting it in a suitcase then shooting it or throwing it into a wall are not the humane or natural way of doing it.Comment
