    Re: OS Running Thread

Did my first ever 10k at 36:24. I can't express how much I hate that distance. Totally tanked it by the end and my heart was pounding out of my chest. Much MUCH prefer 1/2 and up, even if it takes all damn day.

At this point in my running cycle, I don't participate in anything less than a half-marathon. I find it hard to justify running that distance and paying $30.

        Re: OS Running Thread

Just started running again as a companion to the new diet I'm on, and I needed some new shoes. So I went to the local running store for some advice, did a gait analysis, tried on multiple pairs, etc. Came home with a pair of Asics that felt really good at the store (did jogging there to make sure). It's part of their maximum stability line, because I have really low arches and I overpronate a lot.

Problem is, I went for my first run in them earlier today and my problem with arch pain is still there. Only able to do about 2 miles now (out of shape), but my arches were on fire. I'm planning on heading back to the store tomorrow to talk to them about it, see what I can do to prevent some of that. But I was wondering if any of you guys had any advice you could offer?

Ever try running barefoot? I have heard it is a really good way for flat footed runners to strengthen their feet.

              That sounds amazing, good luck!

Sunday I will be running on a huge hill. Matt Forte works out on a hill somewhere in the suburbs of Chicago and I was finally able to locate the park!

Hills are a great workout. I am getting ready to incorporate my sprint and hill work into my exercise routine. I'll still run my 4-6 miles a couple of times a week, but need to change things up a little.

I hear ya, I usually only incorporate biking into my routine. However, I am trying to become more well rounded so I did some swimming, plyo box sets and jumped rope the other day.

I started a cycling/mountain biking/commuting thread a week ago but got all of one reply. I haven't been out much this year due to starting a new job and trying to move, but am trying to go at least once of the weekend. It definitely is nice to incorporate that into my exercise routine.

Just got an email from a race organizer for my last race saying I won 250 Euros! ($320). Result! I definitely don't and never will see running as a job but it is nice to be thrown some extra money.

Yeah that was the one. I couldn't believe it, it wasn't like I hit the podium or anything either.

Any recommendations on some shoe inserts for general athletic use? I used these in the past - http://www.drscholls.com/Products/ActiveSeriesInsoles but wanted to see if anyone else had some input to give. I am actually putting them in a pair of $60 cleats I wear when playing Ultimate.
