Re: Anybody else glad that they DON'T have kids?

I'm 30 years old and am absolutely thrilled that I don't have any children and I sleep extremely well at night knowing that I never will. A simple doctor's office visit a couple years ago took care of that!

Just like my man Born says, there are way too many people on this planet and not nearly enough resources to go around. Every time another child is born in this country, we all get a little bit poorer monetarily and resource-wise.

Plus, I just love the fact that I can go where I want, when I want, for as long as I want and not have to worry about any responsibilities. I'm 90% self-employed with a house that is already paid off and all of my utility bills are on auto pay. If I wanted to take off on an impromptu trip to Vegas tomorrow and stay for a month, I could. If you were married and had kids I guess you could do that but you would be a pretty lousy parent.

I've been with the same girl for years and she is anti-marriage and anti-procreation just as I am. We don't need a piece of paper to prove our bond with one another and we don't need any offspring to make our existences worthwhile.

Agreed. Lack of resources is not the issue. It's the unequal distribution of resources. How can you have people making enough money that they can stay rich AND afford to pay other people millions of dollars? Yet others are living in poverty. Not that I'm advocating socialism. I love living in the USA.

The issue is not necessarily having kids, it's mainly couples having them too early. I made a decision that before I had any children, my wife and I will take time to enjoy our marraige and our time alone until we both felt ready to have a child.

              ...I'm still happy.

Re: Anybody else glad that they DON'T have kids?

I'm only 21, but the life decision's already been made. I'm not having kids. I don't care if that means I'm single forever. They're annoying, they're a drain on the wallet, and they're a huge responsibility. Personally, I don't see the selling point. Something to love unconditionally? I'll get a dog. I don't have to go bore myself to death at the dog's little league game every week. Maintaining the species? I think the rest of the world has me covered.

Frankly, I just don't see what they'd add to my life that I would want. Good for you guys that have kids, glad they make you happy, but no thanks.

You are 21, see how you feel about 10 years from now. If you feel the same then so be it. And by the way you feel about kids, it is probably a good idea you don't have him.

I wish I had the answers at 21, would have been so much easier than having to learn through experience.

So... you're suggesting I have kids, to learn through experience as you put it, to see if I want kids?

It's not like buying a different brand of soda, I can't just throw it away if I don't like it.

That is so true. When I was 21, children was the farthest thing from my mind.

That is not what he is saying. He is saying at 21, you are most likely going to change some of your thinking. You might never have children and that is fine. But when you make that decision at 21, you might be shocked when you are in your 30's and you change that thinking, believe it or not it does happen some times.

Ahh. That makes sense. Right now, I can't see myself ever wanting kids, for the reasons I stated above, but I suppose it's possible that I could change my mind. I wouldn't call it likely, because kids (especially little ones) honestly annoy the hell out of me, but it's possible.

Some of you guys that are saying you despise kids and don't want them around better make damn sure you don't have any. If you feel that way, get a girl pregnant and she has a baby, that poor kid will have one crappy dad.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.
