    But that's not everyone's experience.

I have a four-month-old son. It's a challenge, but it's the furthest thing from 'hell' or 'miserable' that I could imagine. Without trying to sound too cliche (again), I can say that he's the best thing that it's ever happened to me and has enriched my life in so many ways.

Get it in context. There's nothing wrong w/ that question, and I agree with Apostle that not having kids would be considered responsible.

Oh...and looking out for yourself and being self-centered aren't bad? So is Apostle pushing away women and children like George Costanza when he sees a fire?
You just spoke about context... Well, look at context in regard to this thread. When choosing to not have kids for the reasons that many have listed here? Then no, being self-centered in that way is not bad. People who don't want kids should not have them, and if it's because of 'self-centered' reasons, then so be it.

I also think having kids involves a level of self-centeredness... Why do people have kids? Their own happiness. Not always, but usually, that's why.

Oh my goodness somebody can take a step back and see it from both sides! I think I just had a heart attack lol

I personally don't believe anybody needs to validate their reasoning to have or not have a child. The reason being is that ANYBODY (health permitting...and who can find a partner lol...or they can adopt...etc.) can have a child. Society has made it standard that nobody can question your right to have a child regardless of the situation you bring that child into.

The thread was designed to find people happy for not having a kid.

Scottadau you're a lucky man to only work 32 hours a week! I do the 50 hrs/week deal and just imagine increasing your workload by 50% and having to take care of that child!

I have to take care of my house, car, dog, and work my butt off. Oh and I have a social life, a career, and I play in sports leagues.

Re: Anybody else glad that they DON'T have kids?

My job rocks! I teach at J Hall and if the kids are being bad I have them spent back to their cell. I work 3 blocks a day. Each block is 1:30hr. So I have the kids for 41/2 hours of my 6.5. There is a lot of break/prep time. I get off by 3pm and have to be at work by 8am. Plus the kids like me and we have fun in the class. Some times when they are good for the whole week, we play dominoes. There is a lot of reward behavior in my class. And the County love me, so job security is a plus there. Now for the best part, I am off one week a month. And it is a paid vacation too. So I will work here for a long long long time. Plus I make more than your average teacher. Any way enough bragging. L3 what is wrong with you? My brother had something like that. He could not go out at all and was very scared to leave. He had some anxiety disorder.

That is why I got married and have the wife a stay home mom. I do play with my kids a lot though. The 2 year old is a truck. He is one tough kid. My older one has some fine muscle issues, so he is not going to be a sports god. But he is good kid too. I am very blessed I have two great healthy boys. That keep me very busy!

Man you have a nice schedule.

So you and your wife work a combined 32 hours a week, with one entire free week a month? I hope you realize you are nowhere near the norm.

Like I said, I work 50 hours and my girlfriend works 55-60. If we had a child thrown into the mix it would, without a doubt, put stress on us.

You are still young though. So you have plenty of time to worried about kids and how to provide for them.

It is funny I am 38 and I feel old for my 2 year old. Which in a way I am. But I also think you should have kids in your 30's though. 20's are too young in my opinion. I am sure some will disagree with me. But I should have had my second closer to my first instead of 6 years a part. That way I would not feel so old with my second one.

That's basically it. It's anxiety/panic disorder caused from head trauma (which is rare), mainly misdiagnosed as agoraphobia. I accept the agoraphobia label though, it's close... not totally accurate but close enough.

OK, yeah my brother had that. I hope you have a good doctor? Also try if you can to go outside once in while. The sun is real good for you. Hang in there bro and it will get better. Once my brother found the right meds he was able to do more.

Kinda surprised there are nearly 200 posts in this thread.

Still thrilled at this wealth of time and freedom that I have to my selfish selfitty self self self.

LOL I remember telling that to a girl on a 8th grade field trip. She said she wanted to have a kid to have someone to love her unconditionally. Get a dog.
