So I've not read a book since High School and even then I used cliffnotes most of the time or another source to write papers without actually reading all of the book.

But my friend recommend me a few books to pass the time on deployment and lately I've gotten into reading. I've been enjoying it so far.

I just finished up The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Great book, I couldn't put it down. I have the book 1984 on the way and can't wait til it gets here.

After I finish 1984 which I heard is a "must-read" I'm going to get into historical books, military history, sports, entertainment, biographies, etc.

So recently I've read Freakanomics (loved it, very interesting), Ron Jeremy's autobiography (pretty ordinary but what I expected) and have just started Keith Richard's (from the Rolling Stones) book called life.

I started Girl with a dragon tattoo a few weeks ago but it was VERY slow to get going so I stopped but I might have to go back to it because everyone who's read it says it's a great book.

I'm racing my son through the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series...very fun reads! I'm currently half a book up on him but he's gaining fast (there's a reading contest through the library and he's putting in over two hours a day).

Ditto, though I'm not racing my kid, she nine months, lol.

Reading Sea Monsters, book 2 in Percy Jackson series. Just finished newest Star Wars novel Conviction, great read, couldn't put down. Best book I've read this year: Nerds - Who they are and why we need more of them. Every parent should read or skim this book!

It's an indictment against pop culture and the American Educational system.

Two chapter names: "Why American's suck at math or If you want an engineer please go to India" and "The social inadequacies of the intellectual of Why a nerd can't get laid." Lol...great chapter names!

Another is called, "Why Ashton Kutcher is cool and you nerd is not."

It has lead me to home school my child because I can give her a better education at home. I have a college level math ability and to be honest teachers spend so much time on kids who don't care or whose parents don't care some of the smarter kids suffer. My kid, if she's able, will be doing algebra before she's 12. It's not impossible...it used to be the norm. No Teacher Left Standing made sure of that.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II

Here recently, I feel like I have knocked quite a few books off of my list.

                        The Hunger Games series
                        Moneyball
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (waiting for the 2nd one from the library)

I have been reading a bit of the new ESPN book before bed but I'm mainly trying to catch up on some comics that I have been letting pile up over the last couple months. I did pick up a used copy of Stranger in a Strange Land last week for 75 cents so I'd like to read that. The new Chukc Palahniuk book "Damned" can't come out soon enough.

So, I was thinking of doing a "Summer Reading" list for myself. I'm compiling it out of books/series that I have, but either haven't finished or simply haven't read.

Thus far I've come up with:

                          The Bourne Series
                          Harry Potter series
                          On the Road
                          All The Pretty Horses

You guys might be interested in the website goodreads.com. You can input the books you've read, are reading or plan to read and it will recommend books based on that.

Currently I'm reading rob lowes memoirs, Tracy Morgan's autobiography and The Bottom of the 33rd (AAA baseball game from the early 80's, had Boggs and Cal Jr. playing).

Currently reading Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. I never watched the HBO series, aside from a few minutes here & there, so once I'm done I may have to activate a Netflix free trial to do so.
