Ok, fair enough. It's more of the government policies (broad brush) that aggravate me and most. Just ask most service men. This is why we have to keep many of these inefficient policies away from managing internet regulations.

Re: My new reason to hate the Post Office
I'm a postal worker myself, although I work in the back, away from public view. I read thru this thread and just grinned. We hear complaints like this all the time...
I don't know why they wouldn't allow you to sign your card in front of them. As far as the non-acceptance of "see id" as a valid sig, I know that part's true. Not just the PO, but many places won't accept this as a valid sig.
Now, allow me to clear up some things.
First off, we are NOT government. The DMV is government, But not the PO. I don't get full dental and vision coverage. I'm not in a GS pay scale. We are subsidized by the government, whereby when we want to raise postage rates, we have to go thru a postal regulatory commission, which IS the federal gov't and get their permission.
So those who like to say "My taxes pay your salary" to me, wrong.....
I'll admit----there are some who take the job for granted, i.e. don't do sh*t and still get paid a nice salary. But many others like myself work hard, and others still work 10-12 hours a day esp. this time of year to get the mail out.
The public sees the letter carrier as someone who puts mail in their box. It goes beyond that, as I read stories all the time about carriers who save customers' lives. The carrier knows his/her customers, and when they notice something amiss, such as mail piling up, the customer's daily routine somehow interrupted, etc., they're usually the only chance that customer has to receive help. These stories don't always make the news, but they happen.
I'm sorry the OP had a bad experience. But there are alternatives. Stamps.com for one.
Also, the automated postal center, which should be in the lobby. Basically it's you doing everything yourself, kinda like an ATM.
Sorry for the long post. I'm one of the rare folks who actually enjoy my job, and when I see wrongful perceptions of what we do, I feel the need to clarify.
Merry Christmas to all....Comment

Thank you Segagendude for doing what you do. The USPS has always been good to my family (my mother is a rural mail carrier, and my aunt is a postmaster), and I'm glad to hear there are still postal workers like them and you that care about doing the best job possible.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: My new reason to hate the Post Office
I have used my credit/debit cards, which are all signed and also feature (see Photo ID for reference), at about a million different places. I have never once had an employee look at the back of the card in any place I've went to in my 6 plus years of using cards. Now most places let you swipe and do all the stuff yourself and further enhance the ability for fraud.
I've actually used my girlfriends card at places I knew full well were the type of employee swipe/sign receipt old fashioned system. Each and every time the employee never looked at the card (front or backside) and blindly completed my technically fraudulent transaction.NFL: Green Bay Packers

Now not allowing you to sign it in front of them may have been a dick move, but I'm not convinced that's part of the actual policyComment
