Re: Favorite board game?
If any of you guys ever wanted to try table top war games but didn't have the time or energy to go sifting through manuals, you should really check out Battlecry and Memoir 44. They are games that can be played relatively quickly and they are a blast.
You can even play them solitaire pretty easily. The games usually last about an hour.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Favorite board game?
My coworker got this board game called Small World for Christmas. It was really fun to play. Basically you try and conquer the most territories and by the end of your turn, you receive a coin for each territory owned. After 10 turns, the player with the most coins wins.
The best part are the different races you can choose from which have their own rules, as well as a super power that they are paired up with. Since super powers and races are randomly paired each game, there is tons of replay value.
It got me looking at other board games and I saw The Walking Dead Risk on Amazon. Really tempted to buy it, but I've never played Risk and don't know if more casual board gamers could get into it.

I also created board games as a kid that were impossible to win (I liked watching players suffer), and another one in college that is a mix of Chess and XCOM (before I even knew XCOM existed).Comment

Re: Favorite board game?
My favorites in order:
1) Monopoly- I love it due to how it is mostly strategy and not a feel-good everybody is a winner game. It forces you to think, take responsibility for your decisions and actions, and it is complex/complicated which makes me lov e it more. When I play with my family, it brings out everything on the table [it is intense; like NFL intense].
2) Clue- I love Clue because you get to be a detective
3) Connect 4- Fun because it is strategic, no luck involved, and quick.
4) Sorry- I love it due to the intensity when me and my family play it
5) Trouble- Like it for the same reason as Sorry
My least favorites:
1) Chess- My dad tried to teach me how to play. It was hard and very boring to me.
2) Checkers (Always was pointless and boring to me, only reason why I played it was to pass the time at a particualar restaurant chain I sometimes eat at while waiting for our table)
3) Axis and Allies (my brother begged me to play it with him and I did [but I hated it and I still dislike it- it was boring, hard, tedious, and long to me] but I have quit playing it due to my dislike of it.- Arizona Cardinals (Eternal Punishment)

Re: Favorite board game?
Bumping an old thread, because (like Mestevo 3+ years ago) I felt inspired to find a board game thread on OS.
I see we have several Pandemic fans in this thread. I actually wasn't too into the Pandemic base game, but I loved Pandemic Legacy. I played it with my wife and 2 other friends and we met 1-2 times a month for about 6 months. It was great.
Recently, I've also really enjoyed the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle game. Unlike most themed/licensed games, it doesn't suck. It's in the 600s on Board Game Geek, and is a pretty neat deck builder. As a benefit, it's simple enough that my 7 year old daughter (who is reading all the HP books now), can play it with us. It's been a great family activity.
How about you??The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Also, i recently played Space Alert, it's a hard, but fun game. Nothing quite like it. You are under a ton of pressure to "program" your moves while your spaceship is under attack. Then the soundtrack ends and you resolve your plan. Generally you manage to screw something up and die spectacularly or barely survive. When things actually turn out like planned, it's really surprising and rewarding because it was so hard to keep track of everything.
I'd like to pick up Mechs vs Minions. It is cooperative, has a campaign, is programmatic, and well reviewed. Seems like a nice game and made by the folks who make League of Legends.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: Favorite board game?
Of those, only played through maybe May in pandemic. Which of your colors became the virulent? Ours was red. Anything beyond that is probably too much of a spoiler to discuss, lol.
I still play board games every Saturday with friends. Last week it was Food Chain Magnate, fun competitive game that im looking forward to playing again.
Will have to post in this thread more often.

I had never played Food Chain Magnate, but I watched the Shut Up & Sit Down review of it. Definitely seems competitive.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: Favorite board game?
I have just started to play a few new games.
Red Dragon Inn, Dead of Winter and its expansions and Blood Rage with all of its expansions.
All three of these are a lot of fun.
We have also been playing a ton of RISK Legacy. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Dead of Winter seems pretty cool. Do the expansions add a lot to the game??The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

Re: Favorite board game?
We've gotten a handful of games over the past year or so:
Ticket To Ride
Small World
Forbidden Island
Tokaido
Plus some card games:
Roll for It
Sushi Go
12 Days of Christmas
Ticket to Ride has gotten intense a couple times. The end game is always interesting.
Tokaido is just beautiful. Its worth the price just to look at the board and pieces.
Small World, though, we spent two hours just setting everything up and ended up playing the game the next night. Fun game.
