    Re: Favorite board game?

Dead of Winter is really fun. My wife and our friends get together and both the wife's like that game. Haven't gotten the expansion but you'll get plenty of play out of the original.

Star Wars : Imperial Assault is really fun. It's got hints of RPG along with miniatures. There are skirmishes which are single play and there is a campaign that take a while, multiple play sessions. Wives didn't like that so we got another group together

Also just got Betrayal at House on the Hill. Fun game, and it changes every time you play.

I want to get Mansions of Madness and Star Wars Rebellion but they are both pretty expensive.

I got Betrayal at House on the Hill for Christmas. It was fun the 1 time we go to play it. I look forward to doing so again soon.

My kids are only 4 and 7, but we've already got them playing Seven Wonders, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, Settlers of Catan, and MLB Showdown, among other games. It's fun.

We had to set Settlers aside though. We had to restrain my son from flipping the board over in anger, my daughter broke down crying multiple times, and my wife and I argued for like 2 days. And we only played twice.

The wife and I started played Pandemic a couple weeks ago and we love it. She keeps asking to play. Just found out there is a board game store near us today so we took a visit. Wow there were so many games I don't even know where to start. Plus the place was over crowded with people playing board games so we didn't spend to much time in there but I did see a Pandemic Legacy game which I found out is basically Pandemic with a campaign mode which sounds incredible. Can't wait to pick that one up.

A bunch or new characters and some game play elements. If you like the base game, then I highly recommend the expansions.

Pandemic Legacy is a fantastic game. I didn't even like the "base" Pandemic game that much, but Legacy was a blast. Choose 2 other friends and set up time with them every week or month and start the campaign.

It's "one shot" but you get between 12-24 play sessions out of it, and can actually keep playing a "13th month" variant if you feel like it

Purchased on Amazon about 10 minutes before you replied. We moved cross country a couple years ago and the couple we are friends with here are definitely not the gamer types. We'll probably just play through it together. I know some people have mentioned to play using two roles each which is a possibility.

Also picked up Baseball Highlights 2045. My wife doesn't want to play a sports theme but I'm going to make her try it. If it fails there is also solo play, plus I'm pretty sure I could get a tournament night with some friends when I go back home.

We've been eyeing Dominon for years but never pulled the trigger. I've never really played deck builders but have an itch all of a sudden. Also eyeing Nations now and a few other games.

Oh cool, have fun! I had never heard of that baseball game. Is the gameplay similar to MLB Showdown? http://clutchmoment.com/ is a new game that is basically updates MLB Showdown that I've been eying.

The Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle game is actually a really fun deck builder. It's just personal preference, but I like it better than Dominion. It has a loose sort of campaign mode, my family loves Harry Potter, and it adds a few dynamics as you play through the 7 books that make it more than just a deck builder.

Never played MLB Showdown but I wouldn't say it is similar at all. The concept of Baseball Highlights 2045 is Football dominated Baseball in the 20's so baseball shortened the game to 6 innings and added Robots (great hitters) and Cyborgs (great pitchers) to the game. Humans are called Naturals and they are the best fielders.

It sounds silly but all the reviews are great and there seems to be a lot of strategy in play. You have a lineup of 15 cards. You draw your top 6 and play those punch, counter punch style. Each card has a revenue value, you add the review after the game and pick cards from the free agent pile which are better cards. In the two player game you 3 games to build from your starter team with 3 buy rounds, and then a best of 7 world series with a buy round after each game. The idea is your teams get stronger as you move on and you want to counter your opponent. The extra strategy also comes into play with the option to pinch hit specific players for the top card off your lineup deck or a card you store "On Deck" If you don't use your on deck card, it goes back into your lineup for the next game, so you can hide a strong card for perfect timing. Visiting team gets to counter the home teams last move with only a defensive action. So the idea is they play a 7th card, probably from the on deck spot that will have a good defensive action saved.

Anyway, I'm hoping my box shows up today. Not a sim, but I love the quick sounding pace with lots of strategy and there are solo and tournament options too.

Unbelievably, I've never really watched Harry Potter.

Cool, sounds fun. I get the theme is very different, I was asking if the gameplay of the baseball part, pitching vs hitting is similar.

Look forward to hearing how it goes

                            Re: Favorite board game?

You have your Masterminds that are trying to complete a scheme to take over the Marvel Universe. You then have your supervillain groups and your henchmen that try to invade the city and it is your job to stop them using your core of superheroes. Everything can be randomized on the board which allows you to always come back for more. And the best part is you can play by yourself or team up with six people. Nobody plays the Mastermind. The game plays it for you. They can wound you, take hostages, get powerups, etc. The best part is you and your teammates can play competitively or cooperatively, or even a combination of both depending on what the needs are.

My wife and I have played it four times already. We soundly defeated the Red Skull, got destroyed against Magneto, defeated Magneto the next round, and barely walked out against Dr. Doom.

I picked up a used version of the core game for $25.00 which was only missing one card that I found online for $1.00. I have since picked up the Dark City Expansion and the X-Men Expansion that adds a ton of content to the game.

I recommend this game to anyone that enjoys deck building and the Marvel Universe. It's pretty much Marvel Ultimate Alliance in a card game.

One of my favorite games, just got tired of setting it up and the trauma mechanic gets tough to manage for some players depending on the heroes chosen.

It can take a bit to set it up. I am trying different things, including note cards with tabs so I can set it up faster and it seems to cut down on the time.
