I play very tight so I always make it down to that point, but when I do I'm either the short stack or close to it...I get afraid to make any big moves. Playing tight is the right way to go IMO, I just can't find a happy medium.

EDIT: It's not helping that every time I've busted, I've been a heavy favorite pre-flop and keep getting cracked over and over. I hope I catch a heater soon.
If ur gonna play SnG's you need to
learn ICM. The endgame push decisions are practically made for you by blinds and stack sizes.

    Read Kill Everyone

Personally I will only play cash because of this.

Anything between 10% and 15% is on the tighter side of solid and can be very profitable in the long term. Makes bluffing easier and gives you a more stable table image.

Anything between 15% and 20% is on the looser side of solid and can be profitable if you are a very good player post-flop. Makes bluffing a bit more difficult, but people will hero call you when you have the goods.

Anything more than 20% is far too loose and is a first class ticket to busto.

Basically, right around 15% is about optimal and allows you to change gears a bit too. It will also make it easier to bluff in certain situations as well as get called on your value bets as well.
Small sample size, but the one I just played (finished 3rd of 9), the stats were:

During current Hold'em session you were dealt 141 hands and saw flop:
      - 14 out of 31 times while in big blind (45%)
      - 5 out of 31 times while in small blind (16%)
      - 16 out of 79 times in other positions (20%)
      - a total of 35 out of 141 (24%)

Keep in mind we were three-handed for awhile.

        24% is still pretty low.

I like to be in the 30-35% range. It becomes exploitable in the endgame, your range is so narrow.

I play strictly 45 man games so I was speaking in terms of a full table when I gave my original figures.

It's the most glorious, amazing, cruel, and sick game you'll ever play. I think of myself of a good player, but I'd NEVER make it as a pro...the emotional swings would be too much.

The idea is with proper bankroll management the swings wont emotionally cripple you.

Thats why high stakes is crazy cause its nearly impossible to have sound BR managment playing 1000/2000 blinds or more.

Just a general question: If I was interested in joining a site, which one should I go to?

I played full tilt for awhile, but realized that I was drinking too much while I played, got lucky on a big all in when I was not favored, and was happy to pull out my original money (needed it for bills). It has been awhile now, and every once in awhile FTP will send me out a promo to come back. Could one of you more experienced guys on here shed light on the pros and cons of Full Tilt and Poker Stars and any other sites of interest? Thanks

What limits do you plan on playing and what kind of a bankroll are you working with?

Low, probably around 100 in something like .50/$1 limit to start then (hopefully) building up progressively as my bank roll increases. I reread the thread and it seems pokerstars is the choice for that level. Is that simply because more people=more people who don't know what they are doing? Or is it more than that? Thanks again!

Playing that low of a limit I would definitely reccommend Stars.

Full Tilt is pretty shady, whereas Stars seems to be more respected. Plus, like 55 said, Stars is the place to be if you're a low/micro limit player.
