Knight, i never diagree with you, but on this i do, theres a reason they've lasted this long, mine is all original and has never had any problems.

Oh...I'm willing to pay a fair price.
But when guys are asking 60K ++++ for non-hemi 440's.....you're smokin' dope.
I'm a Mopar man all the way.
I've owned more than one RoadRunner and unless the thing is bolt on resto, asking more than 40K for a '68-'70 RR or GTX is not reasonable.
There is a reason I've seen the same cars listed for years on multiple sites and publications.....

I hope I'll have the money to restore a vehicle, one day.

Between myself, dad, and uncle we have a '70 Nova, '68 Camaro, 77' Camaro, and '76 Camaro, but none are anywhere near original.

They have all been modified and are suited for drag racing. That's just what my family has always done, since I was a little kid.

My dad's latest project was pulling an older square body s-10 out of a strip pit and turning it into a drag truck. I've helped to re do the interior, including seats, dash, cage, and carpet and even helped with some of the painting. It's a bright 'viper red' now and it's a beautiful truck.. we originally built a 355 for it, but a year later my dad started building a 383 stroker for it.


I hope I have the money to do the same thing, one day..

I'm not a Chevy guy....but seeing your car makes me think back to when my pop bought my mom a Malibu. '71. I loved that car.
No 350 in it though. Maybe a 283? Was that a Chevy motor?

There is something to be said for the small blocks back in the day.
Yeah...the big block 440 sounds awesome...great top end...
But the small block 383 or even 318 had some great torque and was quick off the blocks.

Here was my mom's Chevy.....I had to reminisce a little.
(not hers...same model and color though)


I should have kept that car when she passed.

I'm fortunate to have the dad that I do and I've been introduced to a lot of really awesome stuff and I've seen a bunch of cars that a lot of people my age (22) have no clue about. I'm not an expert, but I do know a decent amount about classic cars.

I can tear down an older V8 engine with no problem and even rebuild it, with maybe a question or two for my dad, but if something tears up on my SS Cobalt, I have to seek professional advce, unless it's something basic... it's insane how much more complicated things are now..

I've sort of adopted my dad's mentality and try to learn how to do everything on my own. If I ever have a kid, I'll teach them how to rebuild a carburetor, at a very young age

He won't pay anyone to do something he can do himself. When I was 17 and my Honda Civic's oil pump locked up, it completely screwed my engine up. He had never taken a 4 cyl. car's engine apart, but he did and we made a parts list and got everything ordered and he did the majority of the work. We had it rebuilt within a few days..

The only work he didn't do, was re surfacing the head head.. which was done by one of his friends.

I just wish to be that good, one day.

Well you and I are in the same boat of sorts.
After returning from WWII....my pop wasn't sure what to do. He was in the Army Corps of Engineers...but wasn't ready for Engineering here in the States.
He instead went to automotive school and got his license as a mechanic.
He set up shop on 14th Street and 10th Avenue in Manhattan(the meat market district) and basically repaired trucks while finishing up Engineering School(years later)
He swore after years and years of rebuilding truck motors....rear ends...transmissions...you name it, sometimes in the street outside the shop that he wouldn't do it again. So my car repair advice came from me setting up in front of the house...and him yelling instructions to me from the window!(2nd floor!)
Some of it stuck. No total rebuilds though. I wish I could.
I'm not afraid to rip it apart...I just wish I could always put it back together!
Maybe I'll drive the Roady to Alabama for a tune up!

Here is a car that I own(again....not this one...but the EXACT model...mine is red though)
It needs a complete restoration.
It's a car that my pop got from the shop I just talked about....in 1951.
There is 2200 original miles on the car.
Wanna laugh now?
My father....as a mechanic for more than 20 years....never had a U.S. drivers license.
He never drove.
Crazy...

One day I'll restore my....
...1951 Austin of England....
...
(I'll take pics of mine....in bad shape.....just to show.)

Not my kind of car but not something i'd laugh at, hell, I'd much rather laugh at the ricers that pull up to me, with their piece of crap exhaust that sounds like a weedeater, thinking their so cool, then smoke em, and when i get my new motor in there, pushing 5, or 600 horse, it will be twice as great.

I think we've decided to 86 the a used FX35 and go with a fully loaded 2013 Mazda CX-5 instead. They don't actually come out until next month, but they look very promising and 33 mpg highway is hard to beat.

Mazda CX-5. I didn't know about that crossover until last month when it was unveiled I believe at one of the auto shows. I'm not much into compact crossovers, but this one's caught my interest in what might potentially be my first car when the time comes (that is unless I manage to keep my Civic and I can put some work on fixing/replacing a few things).

Let me know how it is.

I saw it during the Super Bowl and told my wife that I need to trade in my GS350 for that. She wasn't fond of the idea as mine is 4 years old and paid off.
