It scares me how many of these things apply to me.

Re: Quirky things you do...
Can't stand having food on my fingers (or my face), it's practically a phobia. Even canned nuts get the spoon. I don't use buns with meat, I put pretty much everything in tortillas, and if anything seeps out I get upset.

Couple of bathroom related items:
When walking into a restroom, if I see the only available area is next to somebody at the stall...I will hold it. I don't want to be peeing next to somebody.
I cannot poop unless it's at my house; I must have a home field advantage.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: Quirky things you do...
Every day when I leave for work, I'm paranoid about leaving the garage door open so I turn around and go back by every day to double check. Friend of mine suggested I take a picture so I can visibly see it is closed, but that doesn't reassure me enough. I'm tempted to spend the money on a system to plug it in so I can check remotely if it is open or closed. I'm tired of asking her to drive by when I take trips to make sure it is shut after I've left.Comment

Re: Quirky things you do...
I pace....alot. Not in public or anything, but at home, I'll randomly do it for no real reason. Just walk in circles from one room to the next. At times, I really think I get enough walking exercise in a day simply from amount I pace.
It's not even cause I'm nervous/stressed out/bored or anything like that, I'll just do it at any random moment at home if I'm already standing up.Comment

Reminds me of two old threads...

Re: Quirky things you do...
Most of the time (unless it's really cold) my wife and I sleep with separate blankets. She uses the nice one that stays on the bed. I use a blanket that belonged to her when we started dating almost 20 years ago. It's raggedy with some rips in it and it's very early 90's teal/purple colored. It's ugly beyond belief. It's probably one of those cheap "bed in a bag blankets", but it is perfect in terms of feel, weight, thickness, smell, etc. Every morning the bed gets made and it gets folded up and dumped in a storage ottoman.
On multiple occasions I've tried to purchase a "newer" version of this blanket to replace it, but have never been able to create it's magic.Comment

Re: Quirky things you do...
This one is from my baseball days, but I always loved the feeling of baseball dirt between my fingers. When I played in the field between every pitch I would reach down, grab a handful of dirt and whittle it down to a grain or two that I would fidget with / roll between my fingers. When I was in the dugout, I would constantly do the same thing. When my mom washed my uniform, there would always be a small collection of these little pieces of dirt/rock. There was always a very similar consistency to the size/shape of the pieces.
I'm now 34 and more than 12+ years removed from college baseball and I still do this. If I find myself in a situation that presents a similar material to me (a gravel parking lot, the beach, etc.), I will still reach down and grab a handful and whittle it down to a few perfect rocks that fit perfectly between my fingers.
I guess it's just one of those comfort things that at times can help me relax.Comment

Omg I do the exact same thing...I've even checked it like two or three times before...

Re: Quirky things you do...
I did that at my old place, and checking the door was locked because it was a separate garage. Once always, twice wasn't uncommon. I only go back by more than once at my current house when I have a trip and being hundreds of miles away makes me more paranoid, and then I have her drive by and check on her way to work/way home depending on when I leave. I never have forgotten ever, but once it turned into a habit, even if I know I did it, I don't trust I actually did it.Comment

I "use the force" on automatic doors. And I look completely stupid. I don't even think about it. It just happens.

I am really glad I found this thread. There are a lot of things in here that I do and I always thought I was a weirdo. Maybe I am a weirdo, but at least some others share some quirks with me. Good stuff"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
