We can't even agree on sliders 99.9% of the time. It would take us months to finally come to a verdict. Arguing every small detail and lets not get started about deciding what to order for lunch.Comment

Well, we don't have to worry about that last part. We'll just add Chef Matt to the jury and he can cook for us every day.Comment

Re: Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty

Took a while, but leave it to areobee to hit both of the points I was going to make...

Whole thing kinda reminds me of the Amy Fischer thing, which is now playing out in that exact fashion....

I spend a lot of time in that part of Florida and have been following this closely since day one...

Although I think she's guilty of something, I sensed the tide turning in Casey Anthony's favor when the trial broke during the defense's rebuttal phase of closing arguments...

For some reason, one of the prosecutor's started laughing, was angrily called out by the defense and the judge broke to a sidebar to regain control...

That sidebar turned into a full on trip to judge's chambers...

At that point, one of CNN's talking heads commented that Juror number 5 was so obviously disgusted with the prosecution, that they stopped making any cursory eye contact with their team during their closing...

I knew she was going to walk at that point...

The prosecution has the burden of backing up the specific claims made in opening arguments and never came close, while alienating the jury...

The defense made some wild claims, but the onus is not on them to back them up...they did an excellent job of creating confusion and did a better job of making everyone in the Anthony clan appear to be a pathological liar...

 Brilliant obfuscation at every turn...

I've been saying for years, that regardless of the outcome we'll never really know how this crime went down...

So...Vivid and Dr. Drew it is...Comment

Re: Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty

It is though. The defense is called defense for a reason. She is being accused of murder. Her defense is to say, "I did not murder her." You do not need any type of story to show how it "really" happened. The main goal is to show the prosecution wrong. Yes, if you have hard evidence that it happened a different way then you could use that, but the focus here is to show that Casey did not murder the little girl. It's not irrelevant, because if you're trying to convince a jury that she wasn't murdered, you should have a plausible story of how it happened. Other than the defense attorney saying it, there was no evidence or witnesses who even mentioned drowning as a possibility. We will likely never know if the jury believed she drowned, or if they just had reasonable doubt that Casey murdered Caylee. Nothing that I saw, however, led me to believe the defense's story was even plausible.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty

My wife followed the case very closely. I only started paying attention over the last two weeks or so.

Why did Casey never take the stand herself? Seems like the prosecution could have attacked her on the stand and caught her in some of her lies directly in front of the jury.

I think common sense tells us all that she did it, however with just the least bit of doubt, I could understand the jury decision.

Didn't think it was as nearly as clear as they made it out to be though, figured they would deliberate for more than basically 1+ days.Comment

Problem is, citizens think they understand our legal system, but really don't...

I did paralegal work for a friend's firm for a couple years and came to conclusion that "Politics, Procedure and Personality" are key and things like "right and wrong" are antiquated and quaint contrivances...

Best system in the world, but not flawless...Comment

Re: Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty

I think you're missing my point. My original post was in regards to Thegaming Chef saying the defense provided an alternate story. I was posting how I didn't think their story did enough to overcome the prosecution's claims, at least in my eyes. I know they didn't have to have a story at all, but they did, and failed to back it up. Somehow that was still enough for the jury to not convict Casey. I think in this case the prosecution failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt to the jury that she did it, more so than the defense proving she did not.It is though. The defense is called defense for a reason. She is being accused of murder. Her defense is to say, "I did not murder her." You do not need any type of story to show how it "really" happened.
