Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
Say what you want about the Facts, but everyone treats the Gulf of Mexico differently then they do the Atlantic. The two sides of the FL beaches are really different

Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
So, people that apparently deny geographic facts and believe that the Mediterranean is not part of the Atlantic Ocean, is the Baltic Sea not part of the Atlantic Ocean? Is the Persian Gulf not part of the Indian Ocean? Is the Red Sea not part of the Indian Ocean? Is the Sea of Japan not part of the Pacific Ocean?Comment

Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
No one is denying that. My grandmother lives close to the Gulf side of the Atlantic and it is definitely different than the east coast of Florida. That said, the fact is that the Gulf of Mexico is technically part of the Atlantic Ocean and there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.Comment

Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
So, are Asia and Europe the same continent then, if they're connected, but people treat them differently? What about North and South America? They're just as connected as the the Gulf and Atlantic, but are easily very different.

Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
They are separated by geographical landmarks such as big-*** mountain ranges and bodies of water.

I guess if you want to get technical about it, there is only one ocean, but meh (I feel like I am at Sea World again, LOL)...Comment

Re: OS Geography Class (Gulf of Mexico)
Europe is separated from Asia by the Caucasus Mountains and Asia Minor (though some ethnocentrism no doubt played a role in these divisions, too). Asia is separated from Africa by the Red Sea. North and South America were connected by Panama (though I guess they are now separated by the Panama Canal), but there are still significant divisions between the two countries. Australia and Antarctica speak for themselves.

The thing is that you can draw these borders in so many places, why not have the Border of Africa at the Zagros mountains and have Africa encompass Syria Iraq Saudi Arabia, etc? I just think it's done more to look pretty on a map, than to actually map Geographical sense.-Ohio State-
