You guys need to do some reading on plate tectonics and continental drift and all your questions will be answered. Though Europe and Asia are both on the Eurasian plate, they originally occupied separate plates that collided and fused hundreds of millions of years ago along the line of todays Ural Mountains. Africa and a large chunk of the Middle East are on separate plates as are North and South America which is why they are separate continents.

going by the dictionary definition of gulf(for geography use), "a portion of an ocean or sea partly enclosed by land", I would say yes, it is part of the Atlantic Ocean.

I don't see why it really matters though.

Yes the Gulf is part of the Atlantic Ocean. It's certainly not its own ocean and since it's not landlocked, it can't be its own separate body of water.

Something about redistricting the conferences and that Texas shouldn't be in an "Atlantic" conference since its on the Gulf and here we are.

I've been waiting patiently for a Matrix rip and rave session on this thread, too.

I think someone said that Texas should never join a Pacific conference since they are on the Atlantic Ocean.

Well I haven't participated in the thread because, I dunno, eh. I'm a geography geek. Technically it's part of the Atlantic Ocean, and storms that form in the Gulf fall under the Atlantic Hurricane Season name list and coverage.

I can understand why someone would feel it's not part of the ocean, though. Technically the Mediterranean is part of the Atlantic but we don't consider it to be. Same with the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.

All depends on how technical you wanna get.
