Got bored and read the first few posts of this thread to see what people hated in 2011.

Funny thing, this was posted BEFORE the company even got big or notable.

I mean, you'd probably only hear "Roll Tide" in the southeast. As far as I'm concerned, it's said more now than ever (not sure, as a Californian I haven't heard anyone say it before either).

Unrelated, but I went to the earlier posts, and ran across a jmood88 post where his signature quotes one of my old posts, and I cannot for the life of me remember the context of it.

Thinking about it more, it probably had to do with getting my current 59" plasma instead of possibly going for the 64", but let it be what it is out of context haha.

I remember the Roll Tide thing lol, that's around the time I tried to get the "%" instead of "#" thing going for all the people doing hashtags outside of hashtag sites. Chef Matt still around? %hmm

I don't know about "Roll Tide" , but I love that commercial where the Alabama ''fan'' is telling everyone High Tide!, High Tide! in an attempt to fit in with a crowd he obviously doesn't belong in, lol.

The annoying part is people trying to force it into conversation as much as possible just so they can seem like the cool kid/relevant. It's to be expected with younger people, but past a certain age it's extra cringe.

Yup. By the time you hear it, it’s too late, it’s taken over the popular slang for the next couple weeks.

Reminds me of a random clip I saw of some Barstool guys where they were interviewing a comedian and he said “mid” and the host is like “so you’re saying mid, huh?” and went on about how old was he. So now anytime I hear someone older say any slang that is newer I’ll make that comment, even leave in the “mid” to highlight how quickly the slang changes and you, in fact, are not cool.

I just wish that kids today didn't try and actively say or do the trendy thing as a means of trying to belong/fit in.

Don't be a follower, be a trendsetter! Start the new fad! Be creative, inventive, and put yourself out there! Maybe someday it'll pay off, even if it's silly or weird.

Don't think the phrase is referring to "beating the competition".

It's more about not pointlessly working harder when it doesn't really gain much if anything at all (aka "the reward for a job well done is more work").

Do things the smart way where the job will be done, not doing it in a way that adds on more work for you or any of that.

Me for instance, when I do stuff at work, sometimes if it's possible, I'll put off some "laptop work" while focusing more on in person stuff rather than get both done at once so I can be like "all this stuff that needs to be done is laptop work, I can just do it from home." What benefit would it do for me if laptop work and in person stuff got done at the same time in person? I'll just be given more to do while not getting to do anything from home.

Depends if you want to maintain the mindset of a worker as opposed to an owner. If you run the business, you work smarter and harder at every opportunity to keep yourself and your business fresh. If you are a worker for someone else's business, I can understand your mentality, but somewhere down the line could be a supervisor that notices someone has tricked the system to be able to not put as much effort into a product as they had before, and that is when difficult conversations take place.

If I was a business owner and had someone working for me that found a shortcut for something, I would expect them to inform me so that we could implement it for everyone and increase overall production. In turn, they would be compensated for their intuition, as that is how growing businesses prosper. I suppose it all depends on whether you want to have a job to have a job, or have a job to excel to a place where you begin to establish your own profits elsewhere, even if it's just for passive income.

Yeah, that would heavily depend on what kind of "compensation" I would stand to get for this "shortcut" I brought to the company that would be ostensibly systematically implemented to increase the bottom line of the whole business.

                              Exactly.

Why would you tell your boss that you found an easier way to do something that now becomes the norm elsewhere? That just means more work for you because now that you aren't expected to spend as much time doing task A so you do B and C now.

Unless you're being compensated in a big way, or you're up for a promotion and during the interview you can mention you have ideas for ways to speed up tasks or automate certain things, you're really just hurting yourself. Company loyalty means nothing, and people of today realize that a lot more than past generations did.

If it's your own business then obviously you want to find new and innovative ways to do things while putting in the work. But that equals a very small percentage of workers.

It's like that saying goes, if you want a hard task done fast, ask a lazy person to do it and they'll find easier ways to do it.

I hate the Wendy's(?) commercial that calls chicken nuggets ''nugs''. At least I *think* its Wendy's. I pretty much subconsciously tune it out as soon as I recognize it.
