Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

    Irrigation systems are annoying.

Our sprinklers all work amazingly for the grass, but the drip irrigation hose (the 5/8" one that's buried underground) keeps springing leaks.
For every leak I have to dig a foot or so deep, cut out the leak, and use a plastic connector tube to get them together.
I only found this out when I had fixed all the small lines and got our garden wired amazingly.

Whenever I fix one it causes another later. I think I'll have to just replace a lot more of the hose eventually, but that's a battle for when I actually have time!

More of a win though I had to move the plate up for our bedroom door and chisel out some wood to get it to latch...so stupid how they didn't line up the door hole right when putting it in.

It's all kinda fun learning though! Just ends up requiring way more time than you anticipate, but not worth it to pay someone to deal with everything.

Are you saying the kind of pipe that you have is your issue?

I want to get a sprinkler system eventually but I hope its not a high maintenance project...especially if you have to keep digging up the lawn

We had an irrigation system installed and Im not happy with it thus far. Sand gets in the line and it needs to be flushed, or someone runs over one of the spickets with a lawnmower and that needs to be replaced, the timers rest after each power surge..and the water bill has gone up by about $40 a month.

Probably one of my worst home owner upgrades Ive done.

The sprinklers on the lawn aren't the problem...it's the 5/8" rubber type tubing that's running under our dirt sections that the smaller 1/4" harder rubber tubes can hook into to get water for the drip irrigation systems.

I think these are just original the original rubber tubing sections, so it's just 15ish years old and needs fixing.

Once I get back from the honeymoon I should be able to fix it more right.

I don't water that often, but yeah, that would be a concern...Our grass grows pretty well so doesn't need a ton of water thankfully. our spickets aren't close enough to the grass to mow over, so that helps too.

I just have to get everything fixed that's breaking down due to age. Plus I don't think anyone's fixed it in years either.

Yard work is just tough IMO

I'm trying to finally take that step towards creating decent curb appeal for my house. I have a very long way to go...

I'm not sure if I'm 100% on this but I believe it is basically a insurance policy that if something happens to you the insurance will pay off the house so your wife or loved one is covered for a place to live.

Purchased a condo in the city this past week as an investment property. The owner was an old lady who had been put in a home by the family and the kids were given power of attorney and evidentally needed to liquidate the property. Got an awesome deal but property was a "as is" situation so there was a good bit of work to be done on the interior. Everything has been easy to do myself, but there was wall to wall ceiling to floor flower print wallpaper throughout............................did not realize how much of a pain in the *** it was to remove this stuff. In hindsight, I probably would have contracted the removal out because it has taken me hours and hours to remove it all. Just a little tip for any new homeowners or property flippers........see walllpaper......***n lol....or hire someone to do it.

Oh God yes wallpaper is a pain. I'd never hire a contractor though.

Removing wallpaper is considered one of those "labor intensive" jobs... Which is just doublespeak for "too frickin expensive."

Are the HoA fees you have to carry for the condo decent at least?

Did you soak the walls properly? A good adhesive remover and then popping a bunch of holes in wall paper can make it much easier to pull it off. I had to do a room in my house and it was not bad.

I just got finished this past weekend installing all the new windows. I am so happy I'm finally finished with that project. Next up is breaking out the spray gun because I'm repainting the outside of the house.

That sucks, nothing worse than a simple job turning into a nightmare.

For instance I was installing some cypress posts in front my house. Simple job, some 8x8 posts with a anchor footer. Drill hole in concrete with hammer drill then place a anchor bolt to attach footer, lastly jack up roof and place your post underneath, lower roof and attach post to footer with nails. Simple simple job that turned into a nightmare for me.

As I start drilling my holes in the concrete I get only about a inch down and it won't go any more. I'm fighting this hammer drill just letting it rip full throttle. Got me a 30 dollar bosch hammer bit and just going to town on this concrete. After a good 5 min, I notice I have still not made any head way.

Long story short, I burnt up 1 bit and snapped another in half. Fought for almost 3 hours to drill two holes.

All concrete now a days is just plain ol sand, water, and other minerals. It is a breeze to drill through. Well this old slab, they used aggregate concrete. Which I was not aware of at the time but it containers large rocks throughout the concrete, so while I was drilling I was making contact with extremely hard rocks. Making the drilling process damn near impossible.

Now there is different amounts of aggregate, but to give you a example it looks something similar to this just less of the rocks.
