Sounds like a plan, plus the prices can only go down.

The parts for the home irrigation are cheap (just nozzles, PVC pipe and some other stuff) so most of the cost comes for labor.

Even the little central computer things you can get (that used to require a weather service subscription) are much more automated now and like $100-200 instead of the 500+ they used to be, and you don't need a subscription anymore since most just read the climate real-time.

Same materials I have for the small sprinkler I have now. ..he wouldn't charge me a ton for labor. Guess I need to check

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

I just have a sprinkler system I have go off every morning at like 4am.

I was weed and feeding my lawn, as well as seeding with Bermuda Grass seed (what is used around here). My front lawn looks awesome, the back yard isn't coming in very well (but that's ok, I don't worry about that as much). I need to probably get those sprinklers on more.

My front lawn is growing like mad, so it seems ok for now. I have to do a quick mow like weekly...thankfully it takes me like 5 minutes to mow, not a big front lawn.

We turned on the A/C last weekend for the first time since we bought our house, and it didn't work. No big deal, we had a home warranty with our purchase...except they decided it was a pre-existing condition, and refused to cover it. $420 to fix it, but hopefully it will last 3 or 4 years until we can replace the unit. Very frustrating that the warranty wouldn't cover this.

Wow, that blows. It worked when you bought the place?

Our inspection guy did a decent check and found wires that needed insulation and whatnot so we made them do a few repairs to the AC prior to purchase.

Makes me remember we should have someone come out and do the yearly checkup on ours...

Question guys, I was going around my lawn with the edger before mowing and the string started to get a little long and next thing you know the it starts jamming up and smoking. Am I operating it wrong or is the edger defective?

As soon as it started smoking, I put it in the garage and went inside. Lol.

We bought the house in January, and the inspector didn't check the A/C because it was so cold. We basically just got screwed by buying the house in the winter.

Ahhhh, gotcha. That sucks. At least it's not worse though, you can get it running and then I think the warranty people will cover it now.

My edger has a metal blade, not sure about the string type but if it operates like a weedeater it should be just about mixing fuel and oil if it is two stroke and then making sure your string is cut to length.

                    Post make and model.

Here's mine. Maybe I should've gotten a gas trimmer. I still have a week or so to make any returns.

I have a Toro electric that doesn't smoke or whatnot...

Did you miss something that's binding it (a zip tie or something, i dunno)...otherwise I'd return it for a new one.

I don't think a gas powered one is really necessary unless you're cutting crazy stuff...IMO that'd be more of a pain for what I do, but we don't have a huge yard.

Pull off the head of the unit and remove all string, then start and test to make sure head spins. If not then pull off head to expose drive shaft of the unit you could have string or yarn wrapped up preventing it from spinning, if then you have nothing to obstruct the head of the weedeater then bring it back to the store.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

Got my student loans forgiven for teaching in an underserved school for 5 years. Finally debt free and in financial position to consider buying a house (something modest).

In SC, they have a program called Palmetto Hero's to help teachers, nurses, veterans, etc buy their first house. Comes with 2 benefits:
-Loan at a 3% fixed interest rate
-$5K down payment on existing home (forgiven if you put stay for 5 yrs)
or $8000 if its a new home (forgiven if you stay for 5 yrs)

There is a cap on how expensive the house can be based on the county.

My question: Can I get a better deal than that elsewhere? If so, what.
