I think a lot of people could shed a few pounds by giving up their soda habit. One 20oz Coke is 240 calories.Comment

You don't have to cook a 5 course meal. A Big Mac with fries and a drink is 1130 calories. A Hungry Man with fried boneless chicken, mashed potatoes and corn is 860. 1lb of food and you actually get something something decent health wise.

Re: This country is dying a slow and painful death health wise.
I usually drink one soda each week. The rest of the time, I'm drinking water or the occasional milk and gatorade... I feel so much better, throughout the day.
I don't see anything wrong with eating the occasional fast food. I eat a Chicken Bacon and Swiss from Arby's at least once a week and I eat my own mother and grandmother's cooking sometimes.. neither is that healthy.
I eat oatmeal, banana, or sometimes a cereal bar for breakfast and eat tuna, baked chicken, or turkey for lunch... and I'm in the gym 4-5 days each week.
I don't think it has as much to do with completely cutting everything out as it does moderation. Of course, if you're looking to cut a lot of weight you need to cut it all out, but if you're just looking to maintain or get in better shape.. I don't see what's wrong with the occasional fast food.Comment

90% of my fluids are water or diet v8 splash(10 calories). I am just glad I am cheap. I'd much rather eat a sandwich or two instead of paying $5+ for lunch somewhere. Not sure how healthy it is, but the Wal Mart deli has a badass deal where you get 3 huge chicken strips then some kind of side for only 3.75.Comment

Not sure if it's been posted, but has anybody here read the book "Eating Animals"? I still eat meat regardless, but the stuff you read in that book is just so disturbing.NFL: Bills

I read it, enjoyed his perspective, but ultimately I was not persuaded. Most of the stuff about factory farming, pollution, etc. I was already familiar with. But a good read overall. He also wrote "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" which was made into a movie."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Yeah, hated that movie. And I don't really like the book very much personally, but it certainly opened my eyes more to what I'm eating. I do really like the fact that he can make what's basically a non-fiction piece interesting with his sarcasm and sense of humor though.NFL: Bills

Re: This country is dying a slow and painful death health wise.
Oh yeah, BMI is the biggest joke in the health/diet world. I'm surprised it's recognized by anyone worth a damn. It's even more ridiculous when you take into account that muscle weighs more than fat. If you have any type of muscle you'll be considered overweight by BMI's standards.
At 6'8" 235 I'm just on the edge of overweight at 25.8 BMI. I can see a decent amount of my abs, don't think "overweight" people can.
Its up there for sure top five but not number one. I think Diet ANYTHING is the biggest joke myself. When I was in the Army i was always put in the "fat boy" line for measurements, lol. I was 6ft 205. Lifted weights and all that. prob in better shape than anybody in my unit. The funny part was after a while my DS would just laugh and tell me to get out of there and they stopped measuring me. At the time my body fat was about 7% or so. I maxed all my PT tests easily and passed the push ups and sit ups within 30 seconds or so. I didn't try too hard b/c then they push you even more. I didn't want to look like a show off. I just blended in. Thats my .02Comment

If anyone here is interested, you really should do yourself a huge favor and buy the book "Burn the fat, feed the muscle" by Tom Venuto.
It doesn't matter if you're just starting out or a specimen like AuburnAlumni. It is truly the most informative, accurate, life-changing book on fitness you will ever find. There is no BS in there. It covers everything you can think of.I post the frog

We can blame parents but our government is just as much to blame for the way they allow companies to process food. The FDA is a ****ing joke, and is just a capitalist machine....they do not give a damn about the American. Think about it....nothing....I mean NOTHING should never hit our shelves that is hazardous to our health.

Re: This country is dying a slow and painful death health wise.
I'm watching "The Weight of the Nation" on hbo. First time seeing it and its part 3 about kids health. It makes me so sick seeing what public schools serve kids. I'm thinking back how bad school lunches were for us. We had food courts where you can buy fries, burgers, pizza and candy any time you wanted. I hardly remember any healthy options back then.
Its so disturbing to see how our countries priorities are. Education is important but is it more important than our health? It saddens me deeply what we are doing to our kids.Comment
