Not saying that at all. This is a situation that, IMO, couldn't have been prevented. No one would have had knowledge of how this went down and the short amount of time it did. It was the teacher's son.

However, I'm just offerring a suggestions on future deterants, nothing more, nothing less.

What kind of door locks do you use that can be shot off (forgive my ignorance).

I've never been an Obama supporter, but seeing the genuine pain and sadness in his eyes during that speech was strangely comforting. Too many times politicians seem out of touch with the lives of real people, but you could tell this actually affected him.

No self-indulging halfwit would take the time to logically consider such an option. He'll just shoot what moves before he decides he's found a good number... or that his own number is up.

I'm revealing this news to all of my class periods today, most of which had heard about the shooting in some form or another. My message to them wasn't anything about gun control or being safe... it was asking them to maintain sanity for as long as possible, and if they so choose to take their own lives to not bring anyone else down with them. Short, simple, and sweet.

These elementary school children can't even fathom that what just happened today is really real. Their lives are scarred by this event more so than anybody else. They lost best friends and sandbox playmates in this tussle. There are a few too many sick bastards in this world who sometimes feel a bit too in charge, and it almost makes me break down each period I spill this out to.

I live right next to Newtown in Bethel. We are all small new england towns. very safe. This tragedy has been absolutley shocking, its so much scarier and real when you live only 10 minutes away. I played on the baseball field at the school, my mother put programs on at the school last year. This is shocking for our community. This hurts very, very deep.

If its a wooden door you could shoot around the lock to separate it from the door. Also directly shooting the lock in some cases could break the lock.

That would break all types of fire safety codes I'm sure.

Didn't affect no fire safety codes in Florida. All my schools I attended were locked during class since 9/11 happened.

I don't have kids, but this has really upset and angered me. I'm pissed off that somebody could do such a thing. I'm not a violent person at all, but I really wish I had five minutes with that sick **** before he died.

And while my heart certainly went out to the victims in Portland and Aurora and Toronto, none of them hit me quite like this has. Like a lot of people, I guess I had become desensitized. If any good can possibly come from something so horrific, I'm hoping maybe it can wake us up and make us re-sensitize us and make us realize that these sort of things shouldn't just be an accepted part of life.
