Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut
Unbelievable. As a teacher, this hits close to home. You just never know.
One of my fellow faculty members said today that we need to have an "intruder is in the building" drill.Comment

Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut
I know its easy to bash news agencies but people need to realize that we are in a different time now. When the rule was "get it first, but get it right", there wasnt the internet and social media sites like Twitter. People bash the major networks when they are slow to report news that Twitter or less established news agencies on the net have reported. People bash them when they jump the gun and report incorrect tweets or reports in an effort to get the news first and please people who want immediate news.
I cant support sloppy reporting but I wont bash news agencies that mistakingly report information given by legitimate sources that happens to be incorrect.
As for the rest, they need to start driving home that reports are unsubstantiated, and not report these things as fact.Comment

Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut
Why would I give a **** if it was someone I know? The shooting happened this morning. There is still confusion regarding the shooters name. Now lets say the top news agencies (Fox, CNN, MSNBC) waited until the police released the shooters name. That probably happens late tonight. You expect a major news agency to not report on reports regarding the shooters name just because the police havent confirmed it? You expect those news agencies to ignore a story that is being reported by every other news agency on the internet?
Just another case of people having nostalgia about some **** that never happened. News agencies back in the 60, 70s and 80s would report on rumors during live news coverage all the time and many of them were wrong (see JFK assassination). The difference is today because of the internet and how fast news travels its harder to confirm before it goes viral.Comment

Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut
Reporting the random guy with the same name's facebook page is unforgivable, even if you think the source might be reliable you confirm that crap before you willy nilly hurt some innocent party.

Re: Elementary School Shooting in Connecticut
I havent seen any of the three major networks do that on TV. Ive seen a ton of random reporters on Twitter and on websites post the random guys photo but Fox or MSNBC (its possible I've missed it). I found the wrong guy's FB page through Twitter and a google search...not a major news network.
I was basing my statement on this:

Who's to blame for this?
At what point does a child want to kill his own mother? Some people just shouldn't have kids, man.Comment
