Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
It's kind of hard to believe I have not been involved in this thread like I was last year. This year has already been a better fitness year than last year. I've made steady progress, finally boosting my PRT push up and sit up totals to over 100 each (I was at between 60-70 last year) and getting my 1.5 mile time down to 11:00 flat.
I've been going to the gym on a regular basis for more than a month now after just spending a day or two on the weekends.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Any recommendations on a pre-workout drink without any caffeine? I would love a little boost of energy for those days where I don't feel like leaving the couch for 12 hours.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Starting to realize how much I miss my iPod Shuffle. I accidentally put it in the washing machine with my workout clothes this summer, and have yet to pick another up. It really helps me concentrate, especially with the kids running around the house while i'm doing my routine.
Had a terrible week last week. Well, a terrible few days atleast. Monday and Tuesday, I hit my kettlebell work hard, Wednesday was an off day. Thursday, obviously I didn't do anything. Friday, I played a 10 on 10 football game at the field which was quite a workout if you forget about the beer we drank while playing. Later that evening, we all went out to the bars and I wound up getting far too drunk, so I basically spent the rest of the weekend laying around doing nothing. Thanks to that, I had very little energy today.
I really need to get back on my diet again. I'm doing ok, but since the race in September, i've gotten pretty lazy with my eating. It's so hard to eat well, and especially hard to avoid drinking all of the winter time beers I love to indulge in. Time to get serious about the diet again me thinks.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
2012 was a downer for me weight gain wise.
I'm 51 years old and finding more difficult to lose the weight, ie slower metabolism.l
Height- 5 ft 8
Weight- 300 lbs.
Goals for 2013
After this week, I'll start working out 6 days/week, 4 days a week HIIT, 2 days a week cardio. Tomorrow, I'll start cardio to get into the flow for next week.
I'd like to be down to 230 lbs by the end of the year next year.
I'll start off with around 1800 calories.
Since then, I'm a year older, lol.
I'm also 21lbs lighter, clocking at 279 this morning. It's been an up and down year weight wise, but I'm finally losing at a clip that I'm enjoying. I think I posted earlier about 2 months ago there was a stretch where I gained 16 of my 18lbs I lost since the first of the year. I was a member of WW online for men, but wasn't holding myself accountable. 16lbs over 3 weeks, wow. So, before that time, my wife physically joined WW and mentioned there must be something in my head that I'm not doing well and she suggested physically showing up at WW's for the meetings. I joined the week before Thanksgiving and since then have lost 9lbs in three weeks.
I feel much more confident than I did last year at this time. It's become a semi-competition with my wife and I. She has lost 17lbs in three months and I'm darn proud of her. No way I want her to be the top dog in weight loss since I have much more to lose than she does. S
So, since the 1st of the year, I've almost lost 10% of my weight, but with WW in the last three weeks, I have 20 more pounds to go vs 9 more pounds. lol. 10% weight loss is considered to be good by doctors.
Last night, the whole family was home and we decided to go to Olive Garden. A quick check online had their minestrone soup at 100 calories and one serving of salad at 150 calories. No brainier. They also had a few more lighter fare options and I opted for 2 grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes(no gravy) and spinach in a apricot sauce. I had one of the chicken breast, 3/4 of the mashed potatoes, all the spinach and no bread sticks.
I realize I was way off on my projected weight loss last year, but my theory is aim high, shoot low. 21lbs per year doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm feeling much more confident and know I will lose weight during the holidays.
Good luck to everyone on their goals and let's see if you came close to yours from last year.
Not sure if I'm predicting this year, but to be at or near 230 would be great.Last edited by roadman; 12-14-2013, 10:48 AM.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Have completely cut out sugar from my diet and only eat high protein meats and about 50g of carbs a day mostly from veggies. Have continued to do 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week and circuit weight training 3 days a week. I started this on November 1st (I know last year but close enough) and as of today 2/5/2013 I have lost a total of 70 pounds......almost 30 this month. I am now at 220 and still want to lose this extra 20 and tone. I think that cutting out the sugar has been the biggest thing that has helped me because I feel like I have so much more energy to work out. Just thought I would share my progress.
Just an update on my lifestyle change, but as of today I am down to 190 lbs. Started at 290 on Nov 1, 2012 and havent missed a beat. Just plenty of water, circuit training and cardio 5 days a week, and barely any sugar consumption, if at all, for the past year or so. Looking forward to the challenge of keeping it off and improving strength for 2014.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Has anyone tried P90X3 yet? I want to try it. I feel like you could get an entire p90x workout done in 3/4 of the actual time if you cut out a lot of the nonsense and time in between each set. Sounds like that is what they did. I would love to try a p90x3 intertwined with T25 Focus. 30 minutes at lunch then 25 at night a few nights a week.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Finished the 10 week program of Focus T25 this weekend. Started day one at 190lbs and finished the 10 weeks at 172lbs. 18lbs total. Pretty proud of myself. Didn't think I could do it. My goal weight was 170lbs, but I can't be upset at missing it by only 2lbs.
Taking a break for a few days with the holidays here. But after Christmas I'll be back at it. Wife and I are going to choose the T25 workouts we liked the best and continue to do them as well as using the Total Gym in the basement again.
In short, if you've been curious about Focus T25, definitely check it out. You will see results.Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Thought I'd update one last time for 2013. From March 18th til late November I worked out nearly every single day (atleast 6 days a week). Went from nearly 250 lbs to 175 lbs. Looking forward to cranking things back up after Christmas and continuing the healthy lifestyle into 2014 and beyond!Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
In early October my football season and possibly career ended. I had been carrying a lot of extra weight and I decided it was time to take it off. So far I am down 32 pounds and 17 pounds from my target. After I hit the target I may keep going.---Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
January 1st, 2013 (Tomorrow it begins)
Let's make 2013 our fittest year ever! Post your situation and your goals so that we can help track and motivate one another to having a healthier and happier life.
I'm 41 years old.
5-10
199.2 lbs.
This year's goals are:
1) Get to a lean / muscular 185 lbs.
2) Be able to see all of my abs! So I must torch this fat around my midsection!!!
3) Add muscle to my entire body and get defined abs!
4) Increase my endurance in everything that I do.
5) Get back to training MMA that I used to do for fun.
6) Improve my boxing and wrestling skills.
Most of all, I want to eat better and avoid the sweet tooth / junk food temptations!
Here is my 2013 update:
Turned 42, still 5-10", 192 lbs.
1) Get to a lean / muscular 185 lbs. Done, worked up in muscle! Still fat around the midsection. Sustained two major and one minor injury this year but good to go now. Much stronger in the chest and arms. Need to focus more on total body workouts moving into 2014.
2) Be able to see all of my abs! So I must torch this fat around my midsection!!! Still fat around my midsection. Didn't help that I didn't clean up my eating habits for longer than 3 months at a time. Holidays were a lame excuse for me to indulge especially when it came to alcohol.
3) Add muscle to my entire body and get defined abs! Failed in the midsection!
4) Increase my endurance in everything that I do. Failed again as I sustained a knee injury two months ago and started packing on the weight again.
5) Get back to training MMA that I used to do for fun. Success!!! Now doing UFC Fit at home as well as at a local MMA gym.
6) Improve my boxing and wrestling skills. Need work in this area. Don't think I have progressed here so that is now a 2014 goal.
2013 was a mixed year for me. Many highs and many lows. Went from 201 lbs down to 161 lbs. Sustained a shoulder, wrist and knee injury at the latter part of year. Got lazy with my eating habits and actually felt sorry for myself. Mentally, I feel that I lost the battle so I need to regroup and push forward moving into 2014. I am healed and have been working to get back into shape from the past two weeks. I have one more doctors appointment on January 2nd so I should be cleared to go!!!Comment

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
About March I got tired of being fat and outta shape. 33, 5-8, 229 lbs was a little beyond my norm.
Since March I dropped to 178 but climbed back to 199 as of today. But the 199 is lean muscle mass. I'm currently on a bulk not eating "clean" per se. But thats mostly so I can hit 4,000 cals. Watching my sugar/fat/carb intake. Just not like when I was cutting
Ill likely start my next cut in march-april and hope to see my 6er soon.NCAA BBALL10 PS3

Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Tough year for me. I did lose 100 pounds from 2011 but had multiple injuries the last 5 months. Plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, jumpers knee, arthritis developed in my wrist took me out this last part of the year. Been doing rehab and getting back to strength and will hit 2014 hard, but be more careful this time. Didn't gain too much weight but lost muscle for sure with all the rest I had to do.
Really glad to see everyone progress, great job this year fellas.
