January 1st, 2013 (Tomorrow it begins)

Let's make 2013 our fittest year ever! Post your situation and your goals so that we can help track and motivate one another to having a healthier and happier life.

    I'm 41 years old.

    199.2 lbs.

    This year's goals are:

    1) Get to a lean / muscular 185 lbs.

    3) Add muscle to my entire body and get defined abs!
    4) Increase my endurance in everything that I do.
    5) Get back to training MMA that I used to do for fun.
    6) Improve my boxing and wrestling skills.

Most of all, I want to eat better and avoid the sweet tooth / junk food temptations!

      Currently:

      23 years old

      6'3" 226 lbs

      Fitness/Health Goals:

      - Drop 10 lbs and continue to build lean muscle in place of fat
      - Commit to a stricter diet
      - Dedicate an entire workout day to cardio

I really don't have any extensive goals. I can't judge anything on weight. I'm a taller guy and my bone structure is designed to where I need to be around 215-220 to look healthy. My goals are to continue shredding fat and replacing it with lean muscle.

I did a pretty good job of building a foundation in 2012, but my lazyness from September - November really hurt me. I've been back at it for three weeks and I'm more motivated than ever before.

        Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I totally stunk it up in 2012. I gotta do better.

        6'5" and 221lbs

        1) Get my weight down to 200 lbs.
        2) Work out a consistent 3 to 4 times a week.
        3) Get my endurance up enough to run at least 3 miles non-stop.
        4) See if I can manage my diet well enough to get off of hypertension medication.

If I can accomplish those four things, I'll be extremely satisfied.

          Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I started off 2012 really good for the first few months and got lazy even though I have a Total Gym and a treadmill in my own house.

          Currently:

          27 years old (28 in 2 weeks)

          5'10" 196 lbs

My goals for this year are:

          1. Get to a more lean and muscular 175-180 lbs.
          2. Lose the extra belly flab I've gotten over the past 2-3 years.
          3. Try to have more defined abs.
          4. Walk/run on my treadmill at least 6 days a week.
          5. Use my total gym and free weights more aggressively.
          6. Most of all I need to slow down on the junk food. Cookies are my sweet tooth usually. I also want to stop drinking soda. I did good with not drinking it for awhile earlier this year and then started back up again. Basically I want to eat healthier.

I'm not fat or overweight by any means. People would still consider me skinny, but I have definitely lost most of the definition in my body I used to have and my belly is not flat anymore.

Wow I see so many similarities here. I went out and purchased a power rack for lifting and I am about to go and put my treadmill back together after moving it to my new workout room. I'm going to eliminate alcohol after tonight and stick to water.

I also found myself parking my tail in front of the tv whenever I got home from work. I just cancelled my Direct Tv after 17 years. Wife is good with our Netflix and Hulu Plus if needed to relax.

              24 years old. 5'11" 185 lb's

              My goals...

              1) Have a visible 6 pack. Seems to be everyones first goal, and I'm no different... This means I need to get down to about 8-10% bodyfat. Currently around 15% after slacking the past month.

              2) Be able to dunk. Touched rim for the first time this summer, which is something I always wanted to do. I'd like to add a minimum of 6 inches to my vertical.

              3) Sub 22 minute 5k. I've never been much of a runner but a couple years ago when I weighed an out of shape 215 lbs, I made it my goal to hit sub 24. Unfortunately, I never actually did anything to attain that goal. This summer I ran a 27:40 5k (and felt completely dead afterwards... granted it was July and brutally hot that day, but still). That was my wake up call to step my game up and actually do what I needed to to reach a goal I'd made a couple years earlier. So finally, earlier this month I cracked the 24 minute barrier for the first time and came in at 23:41. So I figure its about time for a new goal. Hopefully this one doesn't take me 3+ years to accomplish!

              4) Be able to do 100 good form push-ups at once. I've had problems in the past when I was working out with elbow pain as a result of my bicep, triceps, shoulders, and upper back proportions being out of balance, so I figure, in order to do 100 push-ups, I will need to work on my entire upper body more evenly. If I can do 100 push-ups, it will mean I have improved in all areas of my strength.

                6' tall, 195 lbs

                1) Train my arse off for the New England Tough Mudder. I will not allow my brother in law to drag me through the race. My goal is to not only finish the race, but to limit my struggles during the race to a minimum.

                2) Cut down on cheat meals and drinking. Pretty self explanatory.

                3) STICK TO A PROGRAM. I have issues with jumping programs before seeing results. I'm going to focus for a few months on just a simple SEAL type regimen of running, pushups, pullups, and core workouts to build a solid foundation. From there, the possibilities are endless.

Also, I just picked up a new iPod Shuffle, and i'm looking for some good workout music. Something aside from the typical metal I listen to. More or less, some inspirational, pumpup type of music.

Quick question for those that have children...while your wife was pregnant - did you gain a lot of weight? or lose more? In our first trimester, and i've gained about 10 lbs. I feel if I tried to go gung-ho and try to lose some/work out, she would resent me as she got 'bigger'. Is this true? Just wondering...thanks.

I think it happens to a lot of people but not everyone. I definitely gained a little weight while my wife was pregnant, but part of that was laziness on my end too.

I've been with my wife for over 4 years now and in the time from when we met until now, I have gained over 50 pounds. Went from 145 in 2008 to 196 currently. I know that isn't good, but I'm just glad it isn't a "fat" 196. I just need to tone up and slim a little bit.

But yeah, I think it is a normal thing to happen.

                      Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Some background on my 2012, I'd say overall it was decent but not great. I started the year around 170-175 (not exactly sure, used faulty scale at time) and by June I was up to 184. At the same time I got a summer job, worked a lot and didn't eat enough. I let myself get down to 168 at the lowest in August. I still lifted 5 days a week but didn't take in nearly enough calories (only ~2000). Once school started again I started eating regularly again and now I am back up to 183.

                      2013:

                      20 years old

                      6'3 183lbs

                      Goals

                      1) Get up to 190-195 lbs by baseball season (June)

                      2) Keep up my speed by running sprints. Usually I'm pretty good at this but I've had an on and off again thing each week with sprints were I do them one week but not the next. I need to make sure I keep the good speed I have.

                      3) Do not let myself lose a lot of weight like I did this past year. When I get a summer job I need to make sure I eat bigger meals since I'll eat less times during the day.

I just play in an adult summer league nearby but I still absolutely love baseball and if I'm going to do something I love I'm going to be the best at it I can be regardless of what level it's at. Being able to do something I love (lifting) to improve myself at another passion of mine (baseball) is a great thing.

First child: I went from 132 to around 155.

                        Second child: From 160- 204.

Not all fat but I did gain during these points. Wife was eating and so was I. I spent a ton of time running around but I was also working out trying to muscle up. With it came a bigger gut

                            Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I'm issuing a Fitness Ultimatum for myself I want 2013 to be my most Explosive year ever.

                            23 years old, 5'11, 150 lbs.

                            - I want to go faster, bigger, harder in all my Workouts. Maximum effort every rep, every set. Make the last rep as explosive as the first, or at least try.

                            - I want to continue to Gain Mass, trying to stay as lean as possible. I want to be around 170 in weight by years end.

                            - Really fine tune the diet, I think the foods I'm eating are for the most part clean and healthy but in order to put on the muscle and gain the weight I want I'm going to have to figure out a way to get a lot more of it, cook and prepare it without going over budget, and find the time in my schedule to where I can get my meals in.

                            - I want to shatter all my Lifts, and start learning some sort of personal Defense techniques. Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing... just something.

Going to be some big time challenges but I'm up for it. The motto for this year is (Cue Aaron Rodgers with Large Pizza Hut Box) "Don't just go Big.... Go huge." Good Luck to all you guys in your Fitness endeavors for this upcoming year.

2012 was a downer for me weight gain wise.

I'm 51 years old and finding more difficult to lose the weight, ie slower metabolism.l

                              Height- 5 ft 8
                              Weight- 300 lbs.

                              Goals for 2013

After this week, I'll start working out 6 days/week, 4 days a week HIIT, 2 days a week cardio. Tomorrow, I'll start cardio to get into the flow for next week.

I'd like to be down to 230 lbs by the end of the year next year.

I'll start off with around 1800 calories.
