No athletic ability? lol. To say it's not a sport, I fine with that, but to say there's no athletic ability in what they do is just ignorance.

athletic ability means doing something with your body, not steering a car.

With all the G-Forces pushing on that car, I'm sure it takes tons of strength to steer a race car, but even at that, It's more of a competition than a sport to me.

I call NASCAR a sport (or a sporting event), but I don't call the drivers athletes. I call them drivers, or racers. That doesn't mean I don't think they're athletic or don't require athleticism to drive those cars. "Athlete" is just not a term I give them though. Just like someone not calling their stepfather "Dad," despite their father-like qualities, behavior, and characteristics. Just the way you call the person, is all. Nothing more.

And apparently it's uncommon that I believe a movie's ending shouldn't be allowed to be spoiled in a general discussion thread about films, regardless of how long ago it's been released.

If golf is a sport, then so is stock car/F1 racing

Nascar takes no athletic ability therefor is not a sport. I will consider golf a sport way before Nascar. I would even consider ping pong a real sport before Nascar.

Uhhh I can gaurentee you that steering a stock car at 200 mph takes a heck of a lot more athletic ability than swinging a golf club or a ping pong racket.

I'm the other way around. I enjoy watching NASCAR. Some of the drivers may be athletic, but it doesn't take athletic talent to drive a car.

Athletic ability? Really? Skill? I'll give you that. But athletic ability to steer a car? Idc how fast the car is going, at the end of the day, you're steering a car. Athletes: football players, basketball players, baseball players, hockey players, swimmers, tennis players, etc....but race car drivers?

Again, I'll say it takes a helluva lot of skills to do that. But to call them athletes? Naw.

If we're considering skill/dexterity athletic ability then by your example magicians and pickpocket artists are athletes as well.

If I sit in my computer chair all day while working my arms, that doesn't make it a sport.
