Re: Uncommon Opinions
I went to college for 2 years, got an apartment less than a mile from "campus". Best couple years of my life (so far), but it had nothing to do with school. For me, it was the first taste of freedom, being 2+ hours from home, and having a roommate over 21 didn't hurtWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Yeah college fun isn't about dorm rooms and living on campus or the school itself, the fun factor of college is the freedom. Which one can get simply by moving out of their parents house.
Because really there is nothing that goes on at a college campus that you can't do living on your own.
I lived in a dorm two of my four years, the others were in off-campus apartments (under a mile from the main campus) - I still consider that living at college.
Me saying "going to college and living there" doesn't mean the dorms. It means moving away from your home and your family and living with roommates, your friends, in dorms, in off-campus apartments, etc. It's still living at college.
I'm just imagining that right now. There are, probably, 10 colleges I could live at home and, realistically (under 25 minutes) drive to every day. That experience would've been completely different and I would not consider that "going to college." That's commuting to school, to me. As VTPack said - part of college is the experience of leaving home for the first time and everything that comes along with that.Last edited by Beantown; 07-27-2014, 08:10 PM.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I feel you Beantown, but I think your wording sucks lol. I lived on campus for 2 and off campus for 3. I went to college for 5 years, man. My degree says so lol.
I think what you mean is commuters aren't getting a good college experience? That I can somewhat agree with. But not going just because I commuted? Now you telling me that college struggle didn't matter because I didn't live on campus.

Yeah, my wording definitely sucks but I have zero idea how to correctly articulate that point.
Going to college, to me, incorporates more than just classes. Going to school is commuting (from home, not an off-campus apartment) and not experiencing the ups and downs of the non-class related college struggles.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I tend to find that people who say "you did college wrong" to others were generally people who liked to be drunk and/or high and/or partying at least 60% of the time. I don't care for any of those things personally. I don't think you can apply your experiences to someone else and then tell them that if their experience wasn't as good as yours it's because they didn't do x, y or z.
I lived on campus for a quarter and it was just uncomfortable. I quickly realized it wasn't for me. And it was something I was really looking forward to and was pretty pissed about when I couldn't get on campus housing the first quarter I went to UW because of their stupid week after you get your acceptance letter deadline.
Living in an apartment would have likely made a difference, but that doesn't really have to do with college. If I had an apartment the same 40 miles away from UW I live now, I guarantee it would have been better for me than living on campus in a dorm or staying at home even with the commute.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Uncommon Opinions
It's all preferences, I personally wouldn't have traded walking from bar to bar then home or tailgating outside our place then walking to the stadium for anything else I could have done.
Living on campus freshman year sucked tho, lived in a small *** dorm with an Asian kid who games until 6am, a rich stuck up guy, and the only guy who made dealing with those 2 possible when I was there since he was a potheadLast edited by Chrisksaint; 07-27-2014, 11:01 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Nah dude it's definitely college. 4 years of college and I graduated at 22 in 2012. 24 now and being in the real world sucks. I can't stay up all night doing nonsense, and I'm still adjusting to that. But adulthood certainly hits quick once you leave school and join the real world.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
If college is the best years of your life then that's pretty sad to me. Its a fun time for sure, but actually getting out on your own, surviving, and then building a life and career are much more fun and rewarding to me than "college life."

Re: Uncommon Opinions
When I went to college I didn't have a scholarship or parents who made enough money to pay my way, so I had a job working 40 hours a week (from 4:30 pm to 3 am Monday-Thursday) to pay my own way. I still got to party on weekends which was great, but I roughed it during the week. Those 8 am classes on Monday's and Wednesday's sucked.
I get what Beantown is saying though he's just wording it the wrong way. Everyone who went to college whether they lived on campus or lived 100 miles away still "went to college". Those that lived on campus or close to it just had more of a college experience.
I also agree with Fresh in that if college was the best years of your life, then that's pretty sad. I mean having 40 years of suckfest, then retirement (if you make it) is pretty depressing. I certainly look back at my high school, college and early 20's with a lot of fondness. I had some great times and have saw a lot of crazy stuff (most of which I've forgotten). However, living it up in the real world, going on awesome vacations, not living check to check, etc. sure beats most of what I did back in my college years.Last edited by jeremym480; 07-28-2014, 09:38 AM.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague
