Re: Uncommon Opinions
I get what you are saying, as sometimes I go to a shopping mall and walk around check out new stuff. But Walmart is definitely not a place I would do that in, well at least not the one near me. They are always so understaffed, 2 huge lines and only 2 registers open during peak hours; and the store is filled with parents pushing screaming kids on strollers.Minnesota Vikings

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Don't know if this is exactly an uncommon opinion on this site, but seeing how many polls and even an awards show has named her it, thought I'd post this here since this goes against what most others seem to say:
Ronda Rousey isn't the most dominant female athlete.
Yes, she is easily the best female fighter by an insanely long shot, probably ever, but I guess it depends on peoples definition of dominant?
Cause to me, to be dominant, you have to have beaten great competition for long period of time. Maybe it's just cause it doesn't get as much hype over here, but Serena Williams is by far the most dominant female athlete in sports. A real good womens division for so many years, and she's been the best.
Can't call someone or a team dominant,if the rest of competition isn't competitive. That'd be like hyping up the Colts the past 2 years(in a bad AFC south), or Raptors(in a bad Atlantic division). They might be on top,but the competition below isn't exactly anything to talk about.Last edited by Majingir; 11-14-2015, 12:08 AM.Comment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
I disagree with the quality of competition Serena has faced, her toughest opponent has been her sister and it's been speculated those matches are rigged anyway. I'd say Serena and Ronda are good comparisons because it's hard to judge their competition... have they been so dominant because they're so much better than everyone else or because it's a down era? I know it's the same argument that gets thrown around ad nauseam but I don't know how else to phrase it.
I'm a tennis fan and love Serena (wish she'd give her opponents more respect, but that's another topic), but some of these ladies are downright tomato cans. One could argue Sharapova would be a multi major winner in the same era but she gets absolutely owned by Serena, so I'll give credit there. Serena's serve is unlike anything we've ever seen from the women's game before, so again, strong credit to Serena, but man I wish I could've seen her against the female juggernauts from the past. I guess we could say that about any dominant individual or team though
Not trying to say you're wrong, I mean this thread is all about opinions anyway, but I don't really think the women's tennis game has been very strong during Serena's run, even though she's been incredibly dominant over the years. Admittedly I don't really follow MMA but it seems the women's division is still finding it's foothold, so it's hard to make a judgment either way, but damn it's incredible to watch Rousey obliterate opponents the way she has. I'm rambling so badWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Reading that article, it seems to boil down to ... Serena still wins a lot, while there has been an increase in parity among her counterparts in recent years. Basically no one else is winning nearly as often as she is.
But 538 has to produce a somewhat esoteric graph/analytic to present that idea, per usual, lol.Last edited by dubcity; 11-14-2015, 04:14 PM.Comment

I feel like Star Wars is going to end up like superheroes where they make too many movies etc and end up ruining it. Over saturation is a better term I guess.MLB: Texas Rangers
Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
NCAA: SMU, UTA
NFL: Dallas Cowboys
NHL: Dallas Stars
NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Re: Uncommon Opinions
ELO is a rating system used in everything from Chess (which it was originally developed for) to Video Games. It's a way of matchmaking and predicting outcomes.
If you win a game, you gain rating and your opponent loses rating (relative to each other.) If there's a tie, the lower rated player gets a few points while the higher rated player loses a few. That's the "basic" way of breaking it down, but there's math involved that I definitely don't remember off the top of my head.badComment

Re: Uncommon Opinions
Thanksgiving is vastly overrated as a holiday. "Traditional" Thanksgiving food is pretty bad, the main culprit being turkey and stuffing. Outside of family, the only redeeming quality of the day is pecan pie and bad NFL football (redundant, I know).
My ranked list of holidays goes something like this:
1) Mardi Gras
2) Easter
3) Christmas
4) New Years
5) 4th of July
huge, vast gap
6) Thanksgiving
7) Halloween
8) Labor Day
9) Valentine's DayAnd may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU
