OL/DL careers are seen as a longer-lasting position because strength and leverage are something that naturally grows with you as you age (up until a certain point anyways), whereas speed/agility is much quicker to die out.
The impact of a linemen hitting the guy in front of them isnt that bad. Pulling linemen probably have it worse. I hated pulling as that hit left my head ringing afterwards. I was never envious of the runningbacks on my squads.

Agreed that the RB takes more high impact - though I say the strain on the OL/DL is still greater.

My biggest fear was breaking down to block a LB and having the RB or somebody roll up on the back of my knee. I've seen it happen for myself and it's not something I would wish upon anybody

FB was my favorite position to play simply because I didn't get enough carries to really tire out and I felt much more in control when blocking somebody. As a lineman you fire off the ball and it's just a big cluster ****.

As far as body wear I tend to side with the Linemen slightly over Running backs.

Running backs don't always run the ball on every play, sometimes they go out in a route, sometimes the play can head towards the sidelines and they can get out of bounds without getting hit.

Linemen are hitting, smashing, clawing, grabbing, headbutting each other on Every single play. Usually the guys with the most blood on their uniforms, and bruises on their bodies are Linemen at the end of a game. I think Running backs have the potential to get hit harder on any given play as a Linebacker that's coming down hill has momentum built up against them, but Linemen take more sustained abuse over the course of a game.

I agree. The linemen are usually a lot bigger than other players as well, so by the end of a long career they have completely shot knees and other joints.

I also think both Golf and Baseball are sports, and would lean towards baseball as tougher (but respect golf a ton).

Not a fan when people say Golf isn't a sport, don't understand that at all.

Play in a high school season followed by a Legion season. That is the absolute minimum when it comes to "active ness" and by late July/early August, it wears on you. Now imagine what it's like for a college season, then a pro season. The time spent on the field is insane compared to other sports.

And do you know how much strain it is on your body to make the same throw/swing so many times? It's unreal that someone thinks that baseball isn't "active"
Can't speak to that one. I only ever went through the high school season. Iowa is the lone state that still does summer baseball, and as a result, Legion ball is pretty much non-existent here.

What do you mean by summer baseball? Like with the high school?

In PA that would pretty much be the same thing as Legion.

Yeah, here.. Legion and Summer Baseball are the same thing.. so, Iowa isn't the only state that still does Summer Baseball.

Here the high school baseball season takes place in the summer, and as a result, Legion baseball isn't emphasized as much. So as a result, we only have one baseball season (the HS season), where as in other places around the country (to my knowledge anyway) there are pretty much two (HS and Legion).

Upon further review, Wisconsin also has HS Summer baseball, but they also have an HS season in Spring. So, Iowa is the only one that has summer HS baseball exclusively.

Huh. I plucked that from an article, here is the exact quote:
Iowa is the only one of the 48 states that offers high school baseball in the United States that plays its season exclusively in the summer. Montana and Wyoming do not have high school baseball while South Dakota is in the process of gaining recognition as a state-sanctioned spring activity. Utah runs its Class 1A season in the fall, though Classes 2A-5A are in the spring. Wisconsin runs a summer season in addition to a spring season. The other states play their seasons in the spring.

But I wouldn't be surprised if that was a mistake.
