    Re: Official OS BBQ/Grilling Thread

Own two Webers, one charcoal and one gas.

Had the gas grill for 12 years and the charcoal one for a longer period of time.

The gas one is a Weber Genesis Silver A.

The grill grates were well rusted after reading this thread, almost ashamed of how I've taken care of it. My father never taught me and I just glanced over the book that came with the grill 12 yrs ago.

Long story short, decided to get new grill grates for the gas grill for an early fathers day present. Googled and Home Depot had Weber cast iron grill grates. Great, brought them home and noticed right away the newer grates sit lower near the burners. The older ones were much wider.

Will these new grates work just as well sitting lower near the burners? I just made some quick hamburgers and hot dogs(well, didn't make those) and I couldn't tell a difference.

    Thoughts?

Maybe I should have went directly to Weber on this one or is that the only size they make them now?

    Thank you and happy grilling.

Edit-- Upon further review, I got the wrong grill grates. I cooked on them once, cleaned it, will Home Depot take them back with receit and if I clean them real good?

They probably will, they tend to be pretty lax with returns, they probably won't even look at them.

Even though they are the wrong ones, will they not suffice?

If not, then YES, I would suggest taking them back and letting them know they were the wrong ones. Clean them up well and take them back. All they will do is return them to the manufacturer for a credit.

Then definitely go to Weber direct with your model number to order replacement grates.

I would think they would suffice, the only difference is, they are much closer to the burner.

I picked up grill grates for Genesis A series and a few E Series, grills with two burners.

The grill grates I needs are grill grates with three burners.

Home Depot has the grill grates with three burners I need. Plus, we have the receipt.

There are 5 more in the store. I go exchange today.

                      A couple questions:

How do you guys typically clean your meat?
                      What's a good rub for T-Bones?
How do you guys typically season veggies? I have green and yellow squash and was curious what/how to season them with.

When I do zucchini and yellow squash I usually throw in a little onion to cook with them, salt, pepper, and a dash of garlic. Easily my favorite veggie dish.

                          3 big questions there.

#1 Meat is different so its hard to say any one way..... BUT, make sure the meat is not TOO fat. Fat causes flare ups and will burn the outside of the meat. Ribs need to have the membrane removed. Thats the layer of skin & fat under the ribs. Most steaks & chops are usually trimmed well, but I suggest leaving the bones in for flavor and if you remove the fat line, leave some on for juiciness.

#2 Rub is all about taste. First and foremost you want salt and pepper.
Then throw in some other herbs & spices. Most popular are garlic, onion, thyme, oregano, sage, cumin, chili powder, and paprika. Experiment with some and see what you like. There is no WRONG dry rub.

#3 Same as #2. S&P always, then add what you want to taste. Chili powder is good. Garlic powder/salt. Again, experiment and see what you like.

LOL! Seriously? You make it yourself!

Get a lemon and a cheese grater and grate the lemon peel on the grater.

                              Voilà! Lemon Zest!

I did that last time. Except I need to buy a cheese grater. Food processor is a little much for that lol.
