Some of the popular current stuff isn't bad. Some of the Imagine Dragons' songs are really nice.

Re: What happened to good music?

I used to constantly bitch about today's music and I still do, but I've recently found some stuff that is decent. Most pop songs are deplorable (though I kind of like Pink, actually), but there is some decent rock music (Passion Pits and Little Talk are something I've recently discovered).

I still think I'd have to give the nod to the 1970s as my favorite music generation, though. The 1980s were good, too, but the electric stuff started to take over (electronic drums, for one) and I'm not big into grunge, hip hop, or pop that started to take hold in the 1990s.

I really don't care for hip hop much, which has dampened my liking of much of the music world today (it seems like pop and hip hop are merging into one at times). It's strange, though, because some of the early rap music was pretty decent, IMO.

Here's a fun cross-over song by Run DMC (with Aerosmith).

The 70s had Boston, one of my favorite bands, the Beatles during the first couple years (plus Lennon soloing later), and some other good bands. The late 60s were good, too.

#1 in the UK in 1984. really thought-provoking lyrics. Just don't see songwriters like that anymore
          Lazer beam me.

(this song embodies the rampant hate I had for 80's music by and large)

Well Biggie got shot, Eazy died from AIDs, Pac faked his death, Dre started producing, and Marshall got off drugs. But at least we still have the savior of rap in Kendrick.

The mass overuse of auto-tune in today's pop/hip-hop music also drives me crazy.
