It is not about two lanes going into one. It is the latter and it infuriates me. That's pretty much the only thing I absolutely hate and it makes me evil. I wish bad things on those people.

I don't know; every time you get into a motor vehicle, it's a life-or-death situation. One bit of understeer or wrong flick of the wheel and you could be going head-on into a wall or a ditch, etc.

Today, on my way back from Virginia, a freaking deer jumped right out in front of my car. If I hadn't been paying attention, that deer could have been going through my windshield. Every moment on the road can be a deadly situation.

Yup, a big *** deer jumped out in front of the car ahead of me on the way to work. We only had to slow down as it crossed pretty fast, but if I'm distracted maybe I don't see what's going on and slam into the slowed vehicle in front of me. The road outside my neighborhood we've seen a deer the last two nights, too.

Driving is no joke. From the drivers Ed stories I've heard here, not every instructor takes it as seriously. Some of these people here have just taken a written test to get their license? There's nothing like actually experiencing the road.

Truer words were never spoken. I suppose the question would be, is constantly being on alert the same as being constantly, outwardly upset and displeased any and every time another driver makes an imperfect move? I'm sure most could agree those two are not one in the same.

As such, like I said, I think that's the divide. I understand some people feel they must really release all of their anger, whether it's been tempered over time or it's something they feel briefly in the moment. I just happen to be someone where, in most cases, the terrible driving maneuvers on the road may not please me, but I realize cussing out the other driver within my own car, or making up a terrible story about how they probably smell, or anything of that nature really, doesn't really have a point. In fact, I feel such outward displays can (sometimes) become distractions in and of themselves, even leading to a me-against-the-world persona on the road that may only perpetuate the overarching issue that existed in the first place.

Of course, everyone's situation is unique. I have illogical emotional responses all the time, so I get that. That's kind of what emotions are all about in many cases. I just do not see the point of constantly displaying those emotions on the road. For me (and only me), if I were to respond out loud and negatively every single time someone screwed up on the road, I'd still run into the same number of terrible drivers every single day, only my head would likely explode from the stress of constantly badgering, yelling, scoffing, and mouthing. I think it's quite possible to be a great driver and value one's own life on the road without freaking out everywhere.

That's absurd. I loathe these type of drivers.

I have always driven with one simple philosophy: Everyone around me is an idiot and/or is not paying attention.

Just assume that, and you'll find some peace and be safe. Always play defense in the car.

For peeves? I get irritated with late-mergers like the rest of you.

For escalated irritation approaching rage? Late-left-turners at intersections. You know, people in the left turn lane who follow others through, even though the light turned red BEFORE they crossed the line into the intersection.

Those people have a t-bone in the mail for future delivery, guaranteed.

I love when two semis will team up and not let people by. If people are in that big of a hurry they can pass on the shoulder. I've blocked the lane that was ending before. I wish cops would sit and ticket anyone who even touches an inch of the lines that take the place of the ending lane. Pretty sure if I was a cop I would set a national record for ticketing people for non-use of their blinker.

About 10 years ago, I was on my way home from work, going the speed limit, when a guy started tailgating me. The next lane was open, so I tapped my brakes to slow down hoping he would just pass me. He started flipping me off, flashing his lights, etc. He then followed me about 5 miles down this road, until I finally pulled off into a neighborhood to try and lose him. He tried to run me off the road a couple of times, until I was finally able to make a quick turn and lose him. Probably the scariest moment I've ever had behind the wheel. People are crazy.
