    Re: Off Topic 2014

Since I'm studying management and entrepreneurship, we had to make a 20 minute presentation about a franchise we'd bring into Croatia, along with making a business and marketing plan for it.

I chose Buffalo Wild Wings and worked for about 2 months on it. Detailed how I would adjust if for the Croatian market and how long it would take to break even. Even contacted some people in the company to get better insight into the costs of franchising and terms of the franchise deal.

Too bad it's a great paper and presentation that will never come to fruition because they're not coming here any time soon.

It was really fun working on it, I like everything that's practical and lets you learn more about business.

Wow that's pretty interesting. I wouldn't think Buffalo Wild Wings would make for a successful venture in Croatia but what do I know? Congrats on the achievement and hard work!

You couldn't open fifty restaurants, but 3 or 4 could work. As Croatia is a really small country (4M pop), people tend to forget Zagreb is a quite a big city. With it's suburbs, it has around 1.2M people so there is a market. And American sports are becoming increasingly popular here. Football still isn't a big thing, but literally everyone watches NBA games almost every night.

Of course, you'd have to implement soccer, handball, tennis and other popular sports here, but there isn't a single sports bar in the entire country.
Also, one of the biggest problems would be the fact that the restaurants would have to work the entire night as we're in a different time zone. Night NFL games start at 2:45 AM here, and normally no bar or restaurant is open at that time.

I chose BWW specifically because it presents A TON of challenges to make it work here in a completely different culture.
Last year I did the same thing for Starbucs (there are none here, believe it or not), but it was really too simple because everyone here drinks coffee and eats waffles just in the US or anywhere else.

As someone who didn't prepare all too well, the CPA is passable without any class.

I tried going back to school, but no time. I really miss what you just mentioned. I'm torn between taking random classes or maybe doing an online MBA...but I'm not sure how credible those are.

My big problem with going and getting my masters is ultimately it will be a waste of money and time to get into the masters program when the only thing that will end up mattering is my CPA license. Obviously I don't want to go into the exam cold turkey so I could still see the benefit of a review course. On the flip side if I went back for my masters I would probably try to take the test without the review camp.

It just seems like the easier/less costly road would be to fill in those 15 credit hours, review for the exam, and then go for it.

I generally agree. A masters in taxation for instance is worthless once you get your CPA.

I wanted to go for a MBA just to possibly open a few doors in the future.

If you need any review material, I have a few scans of stuff, just let me know.

I was supposed to start my job tomorrow, but they're pushing it back to next week because the company they use for background checks hasn't gotten back to them yet. And apparently they can only hire people on Wednesdays... It's a government job, so I guess having to go through a bunch of red tape is to be expected?

I wanted to just say "I haven't committed any felonies, I promise" when the HR lady called me.

Our dorm hall's rules on alcohol are so ****ing dumb.

I can have all the alcohol I want, but I have to bring it in the building concealed in a bag of some sort. So I walk in right past the hall director with a 12 pack of beer bottles in one of those cloth reusable bags you can buy. Bottles clattering all over, it's blatantly obvious what I have.

I mean, I get why I have to conceal it (so I basically can't advertise to the underage kids which room has beer), but it's still feels so dumb as I'm doing it.

Spent my day working with Day of Arrival recruits and it was interesting. I basically helped police new recruits and tell them what to do, along with getting them around the base and getting glasses and **** like that.

It felt weird being around a bunch of senior enlisted people and getting treated nice. I also stood a watch in the same ship and ended up spending several minutes talking to the commanding officer of the base and a few Master Chiefs. I felt out of place as **** and I kept waiting on one of them to find something wrong with my dress blues, but they were cool.

Either way, it's been a long ****ing day and I'm exhausted and ready to sleep.
