Oh yeah. And biathalon. That's just a terrible event for broadcast, imo. Nothing about it really translates well at all.
See, I enjoy watching the biathalon. No idea why, but I find it entertaining. Same with cross country skiing. I normally don't enjoy watching hockey, but the fact that it's the Olympics makes it tolerable.

American football actually just gained provisional recognition by the IOC last year. Could be an Olympic sport by 2024.

Also, IFAF has 64 countries in it (though not all play tackle football) and Canada actually beat the United States 23-17 in 2012's U-19 world championship. Another fun fact is that David Wilson was the MVP of the inaugural U-19 tourney in 2009.

Currently the hierarchy around the world is:
      1. USA
      2. Canada
      3. Japan
      4. Mexico
      5. Complete drop-off, except...
Wildcard: American Samoa who just started playing in championships at the last U-19 tournament. Gave the US a tough game in the first round compared to normal.

      That being said...

This is actually what is likely. Much like rugby sevens being an Olympic sport now. You're not actually going to get pros though. Likely college students.

You may get some pros if it is no contact flag football. It is for your country, so it could get some stars. The NFL teams would have to allow it though and they may not because of potential injury.

I agree. The only way I understand it is if you have ancestors from that country, and they are a less powerful country that your trying to bring a medal to.

Didn't they mention that Ahn changed his name too? Or was I just hearing things....

No, he did. He name was Ahn Hyun-Soo.

He also wanted to move to the US, but the citizenship was much easier to get for Russia so he chose there.

Did anyone see that NBC reporter GRILLING Bode Miller about his brother dying? Do they get a bonus if they make an athlete cry on camera or something???

After the second question about it, I made a comment to my family, like "wow, they are really grilling him about this", and then she went on to a 3rd and 4th question, even after he was visibly starting to crack after the second question. It got to the point where he just broke down, put his head down, and didn't answer her question. It was uncomfortable.

Felt bad for Bode. Hope that reporter got a talking to...

The funny thing is, NBC needs to be hammered too. That **** happened like 9 or 10 hours ago, didn't it? They saw all that and still decided to air it.

Bode was already emotional about almost not medalling--listening to him talk to his wife while the other skiers were racing made me think he was having a nervous breakdown--then they just pressure him into crying. You could tell she was trying to have the most emotional interview ever

That was awesome how the announcers didn't say anything and then the camera would focus on center ice and there was Oshie again!

Since this site mostly has people from USA...

What do people here think about the accusations about how Russia-USA judges have some sort of side deal to help each other win medals in events?

                          http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/09/sp...ance.html?_r=0

^They referenced an article posted not too long before then(February 9th), and after today, the exact results that were talked about actually did happen(Russia winning Pair and Team event, setting a world record too. While USA won the ice dance event, breaking a world record which was set like 20 minutes prior by the eventual Silver medal winning Canadians)

I thought this was pretty horrible by NBC..

I was trying to find the actual video, but I couldn't find actual footage.

I was watching when it happened last night.. but after hearing the reporter constantly asking about his dead brother, I was ready to ring her neck. Granted thats what the producers asked her to do.. but the timing was just horrible. The fact that he broke down and just cried while the cameras panned on him for that "moment" made me want to puke.
