Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
Mexico, Japan and Germany have national leagues that are decent, but they'd still be miles behind a US team. Canada would probably be a recurring figure in the bridesmaid spot, then those three would probably battle for third. So, yeah, unless you're going to bar the US from competition (which, by the way, would be idiotic) there would be zero competition.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
I hope you mean winter olympic event, because I honestly don't get how many people can be interested in ping pong, some ribbon twirling thing and some horse obstacle course event and things like that in the summer games.
It still is crazy how close WRESTLING was to being eliminated from summer olympics while PING PONG(that's not even a sport!) is still in the games and only really competitive for 1-2 countries.Comment

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
It would only work as a 7-7 or something similar flag football. Just like hockey has almost all contact removed, you would have to do the same in football. Then you could do it in either the summer or winter. I'm not sure how many pros or USA stars you would get though.Comment

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
Only USA would even be good at it. Canada gets silver, and I'm not even sure what other countries play football. Baseball more than anything should've been at olympics, but MLB not gonna stop their season to have games, especially since guys could get injured less than 2 months before playoffs.
On a diff note....Bobsled competition begins tomorrow and it features the Jamaican bobsled team.It would only work as a 7-7 or something similar flag football. Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
You would get no stars. This is from 3 years ago, and I only recognized one name on USA's roster.

Why would football be played in the Winter Olympics? It's not a winter sport.MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
Just saw that feature NBC did on Viktor Ahn... is it just me, or should switching countries just because you wouldn't be able to compete for your home country complete crap. I don't think I would ever compete for another country, even if I was good enough to compete there but not here. There's just something that, to me, is completely wrong with that and I don't think that should be legal.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
I can understand all of that. But what Ahn did (simply moving there because he wouldn't have a chance in S. Korea) isn't right, to me. Also, didn't Becky Hammon do something similar with Women's Basketball?MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympics
Ahn is just a twat, and he's pretty well known (as far as foreign Olympic athletes go) for being so.
Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but figure skating (at least most of the events) and hockey are pretty much the two events I can't stand to watch. If either of those come on I either completely stop paying attention or turn off the channel.
Oh yeah. And biathalon. That's just a terrible event for broadcast, imo. Nothing about it really translates well at all.Last edited by ubernoob; 02-16-2014, 02:13 AM.badComment
