Mexico, Japan and Germany have national leagues that are decent, but they'd still be miles behind a US team. Canada would probably be a recurring figure in the bridesmaid spot, then those three would probably battle for third. So, yeah, unless you're going to bar the US from competition (which, by the way, would be idiotic) there would be zero competition.

Why not? Yes, it is. You don't have to like it and I really don't either, but it's absolutely a sport.

It would only work as a 7-7 or something similar flag football. Just like hockey has almost all contact removed, you would have to do the same in football. Then you could do it in either the summer or winter. I'm not sure how many pros or USA stars you would get though.

On a diff note....Bobsled competition begins tomorrow and it features the Jamaican bobsled team.

You would get no stars. This is from 3 years ago, and I only recognized one name on USA's roster.

Why would football be played in the Winter Olympics? It's not a winter sport.

I read an article saying they are going back to their old suites. I guess they think the new ones are why they are sucking. I doubt it but who knows.

Just saw that feature NBC did on Viktor Ahn... is it just me, or should switching countries just because you wouldn't be able to compete for your home country complete crap. I don't think I would ever compete for another country, even if I was good enough to compete there but not here. There's just something that, to me, is completely wrong with that and I don't think that should be legal.

you usually have to have some legal reason that allows you to do it ... marriage, parent from there, dual citizenship, etc .. you can also move there and apply for citizenship, but I don't think that happens a lot

I can understand all of that. But what Ahn did (simply moving there because he wouldn't have a chance in S. Korea) isn't right, to me. Also, didn't Becky Hammon do something similar with Women's Basketball?

Ahn is just a twat, and he's pretty well known (as far as foreign Olympic athletes go) for being so.

Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but figure skating (at least most of the events) and hockey are pretty much the two events I can't stand to watch. If either of those come on I either completely stop paying attention or turn off the channel.

Oh yeah. And biathalon. That's just a terrible event for broadcast, imo. Nothing about it really translates well at all.
