    2017 Fitness Challenge

New year - same process. Post your goals, meal plans, supplements, workout plans, etc.

My "big change" for this year is to cut out as much junk food as I can. I've noticed since summer I've stuck with the chips on a regular basis along with too many mixed drinks among other things.

I've been doing weights Tu/Th/Sat since July. To change things up I'm going to cut down on what weights I do and try to do 30-45 minutes a day after my Insanity workout. I haven't decided if I want to do that every day or alternate between boxing and weights. I would also like to keep things interesting by either trying routine plans off of hasfit or just switching out days for random workouts.

Outside of that I want to get back into hiking like I was doing where I would hike 5-6 miles on the weekend.

FT, thanks for starting this puppy up.

I'm doing a upper and lower body workout every day.

    15 minutes elliptical warm-up

3 sets of kettle ball rows and inbetween, high knees for 45 seconds.
3 sets of squats with jumping jacks inbetween.(45)
3 sets of standing lunges with high knees inbetween.

    Medicine ball throws.

3 sets of shoulder press, 3 sets of bicep curls and 3 sets of tricep extensions.

10 minutes elliptical, 5 minutes stair master, 15 minutes treadmill.

I'm still with WW, but last year I did a lot of yo-yoing.

I plan to watch what I eat between meals, like cutting out nuts/pistachios.

Those of you that don't have any time, where do fit your workouts.

I been working 12-14 hours a day and haven't had a day off since I opened the resort. I'm losing weight but I'm guessing that's from the stress lol.

At night I'm just too tired to workout but I guess I just have to push and just get started and I'll have the energy during the workout.

Well, marriage put a damper on my fitness.

        However, I'm back into it.

I've made a bit of a lifestyle change in cutting out added sugars. It went very well, overall, but the holidays kind of ruined that. However, picked right up after to no added sugars.

I packed on a good 20LBs since August... Married and wife is pregnant life!

I've been hitting the gym hard the past few weeks and am starting to see some serious muscle gains.

I'm hoping to maintain the muscle gains and stay roughly the same weight wise until about March. From then on, it will be a focus on cutting as much as possible.

        Wish everyone luck!

I work 10 hour days (7-5) and the only time I can find motivation is right when I wake up. I get up at 5, workout for 30 minutes then start my day. It's rough getting up so early at first but not bad once you get used to it and I find I have a lot more energy during the day when I workout first thing.

That being said, 12-14 hour days is rough and not sure I could squeeze a workout in with those hours either.

            Re: 2017 Fitness Challenge

I didn't post in last years thread but I'm down 32lbs from January 2016. I was about 40lbs down but put some weight back on during the holidays. My goal for this year is to lose another ~20lbs which would bring me down to 205 (from 256 last year). I think that's a pretty good weight for my height (6'4)

In terms of diet I've always eaten relatively healthy at home (at least during the week) so the big changes I made were packing breakfast and lunch during the week instead of buying every day. It seems like a small change but when you do the math on calories it's huge.

For workouts it can be tough to fit in between 10 hour work days, long commute and family time but I've gotten into a good routine of waking up at 5am and exercising for 30 minutes at home. My workouts have primarily been p90x3 because I can do them all in 30 minutes. I went through the full 90 day program twice and have created a 4 day/week hybrid plan since then.

I'm looking to add more variety to my workouts this year so if anyone has suggestions for 30 minute workouts I can do at home, let me know.

2016 my wife and I got fat and happy. Joined the Y yesterday and started doing the Strong Lifts program. Gonna try a TRX program this morning.

Eventually I want to find time to join a gym and do a strength program....I've heard from lots of people that a basic one like that is much better than wandering the gym doing crap exercises and cardio.

For now my wife and I are starting the Whole30 meals for a month....trying to be more anti-inflammatory and eat more veggies, natural sugars, meats, etc. Just supposedly helps you eat healthier and learn what tons of carbs and all that stuff does to you and how it makes you feel...

                We'll see how it goes

I'm going to work early on to try and be able to do 100 consecutive pushups through this seven week program:

The 100 pushups training program. Strengthen and sculpt your arms, abs, chest and glutes by training to do 100 consecutive push-ups in six weeks.

Most I've ever done consecutively was 50, but that was back when I was actually working out. I'm going to get back into working out again. Most I can do consecutively right now is 35.

This may be a bit harder than they seem to make it, but I used to not do any rest days. Now I feel that I should only be doing pushups three days a week, provided that I'm able to do other exercises on non-pushup days and all is still good. If not, I'll push for this challenge first, then separate the days as needed.

Don't know if it helps or hurts, but last summer I was 163 pounds and now I am 145 pounds for whatever reason. I mean I can think of why, but I can't imagine I lost that kind of weight in that time. Not like I need to lose weight either, but I think the good news is if I do go back to 160+, hopefully a lot more of the added weight will be muscle only.

My concussion has inhibited me from doing any cardio and many different exercises, which is just unfortunate because I want to start running again. Maybe someday...

I have a 3 and 3 month year old. Finding time and energy to workout is the hardest part. Do I want sleep or a workout is a daily battle????

When my 1st kid was born working out was easy, just hit the gym while she was taking a nap but now there's a small window to work out that competes with other duties and my wife wanting to workout. No excuses though, just have to battle through it and make it work.

With that said, my #1 goal this year is to cut down on sugar. I am a sugar fiend. Last year I cut out all unnatural sugars and this year the goal is to cut down on sweets.

Thanks man, I had a workout today but I have to compact it as much I can in an hour.

As for the sugar part,, just get into fruit or get a dehydrator and dry your own fruit from bananas, mango, you name it. Probably the best thing that I've done because I have a major sweet tooth that I couldn't supress or I would binge on candy bars.

I also make fruit smoothies to get that fix.

Cluck cluck and with as much lean meat as I can. We try to have fish once per week and veggies are important too.

I'm going to try and get some chicken grilled/smoked this weekend for the next couple of weeks.

I typically will make a salad for the week because its easy and simple to make different variations. I will typically use tomatoes, onions, peppers, and spinach/mixed greens as my base. If I want something southwestern tasting I'll add corn, black beans, and do a homemade lime-oil recipe. Other times I'll throw in some capers, sunflower seeds, and let everything soak in some type of vinaigrette.

Of course there usually be some leftovers from the weekend, but I would like something else either to compliment my salads or to substitute them altogether sometimes.

I can think of some pasta recipes I like doing, but I don't want to eat pasta more than once or twice a month.
