Ab routines will make things go faster, though.

The Hasfit 30 Day Ab challenge is a great place to start. I've flattened my stomach and my obliques are noticeably tighter.

Eating less would have more of an impact on that then working out. Less food in, means less food in your gut to process, thus flatter stomach.

Core work is still vital..should be the #1 thing people work on first and foremost as you should be using your core on most lifts anyways.

Gotcha. I don't know much anything about nutrition (nor do I track daily intakes or read items on labels except ingredients because of my peanut allergy haha). I just always thought we needed a daily dosage of a bit of everything according to those food pyramids. Lots of bananas and orange juice in my diet, which does mean sugars I suppose.

                  Re: 2017 Fitness Challenge

Anyone ever try the Lean Gains diet? I just started again this week. My previous attempt was an epic fail but most because I wanted to drink with friends on the weekends.

I've ran slow carb from Tim Ferris' 4 hour body pretty successfully a couple times until I got on a carb rager that doesn't turn back. But you get an epic cheat day on 4 hour body. So I'm in a bad mood the whole week waiting for a cheat day.

Also, pulled a 400 deadlift for the first time this week. Off to bed now I plan to hit the weight room at 5:30 ish am tomorrow.

Lot of sugar in OJ. Heard someone compare it to drinking a Coke recently. The old school food pyramid is ridiculous. Listened to a podcast recently where they talked about how the sugar industry lobbied to say fats were bad in the 50s when in reality sugar is super bad especially when combined with fat but natural fats alone are very healthy. Still a lot of misconceptions people commonly believe about nutrition.

The sugar in OJ is natural. Nothing wrong with that. Its fine in moderation. I'll say, as a general rule for me, if I'm cutting weight, i dont like to drink my calories, so thats the first stuff to go. If I'm just maintaining, a glass of OJ is fine for breakfast.

The food pyramid in general isnt great per se, but it all depends on what you want your diet to consist of. If you stick to lean meats/fruits/veges and stay away from processed, pre-packaged foods, you'll be fine. **Provided your calorie intake is in line with what your goals.**

                      I've posted this site before, but I'll post it again as it covers diet/exercise/etc. It's pretty easy to digest and can help you determine how many calories you should be taking in depending on your goals;

Eh the point of what I listened to was that Orange Juice isn't natural. Just grabbed the first good link but there are probably hundreds more articles on the subject. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/913395

I shouldn't comment I'm sure I drink worse things on occasion and OJ is darn good and no harm unless you are cutting them it is a must avoid.

Just scrolled through that link and it is great and comprehensive. Good share.

I still belong to WW and they updated the way they count points and this happened a year ago January.

They really penalize sugars and fats and reward fruit and lean meats. I applauded them for this move because they are attacking the issues that plague our country, heart attacks, strokes and diabetes and many more issues to list out.

So, I belong to a pretty cool FB group of WW folks. One of the ladies who has reached goal and maintenance did a study on fruit. WW smart points for fruit is 0 points unless you make a blended fruit drink.

Based on this person's study, fruit in moderation too.

                                Re: 2017 Fitness Challenge

                                I'm pissed.

For a full year I've been eating significantly healthier (though having fruit), cutting most all fast food out of my diet. I may have had pizza like twice in the past year. In-N-Out is like once a month if that, and before I'd have it a couple of times a week. Milkshakes are also now few and far between, and I overload on steamed veggies on every plate of mine. I even lost twenty pounds (from 165 to 145) and I'm getting as much regular home exercise as my head will allow.

How am I rewarded? My LDL goes up from 98 mg/dL to 102, my HDL goes down from 81 mg/dL to 78, my ALT and TSH are increasing, and I simply did not receive any better numbers whatsoever including with glucose, sodium, etc.

Makes me want to just eat a bunch of crap now, because it almost seems like none of this was helping at all. Technically it all probably helped things from being worse than they are, but I don't even know what to do at this point.

If people state I shouldn't be complaining because "my numbers are still good," it just goes to show what kind of steady decline I might end up having over time is all. I've worked hard to maintain good health status my entire life, and it seems like it's suddenly now giving me the middle finger instead of encouraging me to continue.
