You know what Memorial Day weekend needs? Something like Independence Day's Nathan's Hot Dog Contest. And to make for a perfect Triple Crown, a Labour Day weekend competitive eating contest.

But what 2 items should be on Memorial & Labour days? Wings, burgers, beer, pizza, barbecue of some sort, ribs maybe?

Is that really true though? Not debating that social media platforms are present all over the world, but do we really know if they've burrowed into other societies quite as deeply as ours? Is there a distinction between it existing all over the world vs how disruptive it has been to different cultures around the world? Just as one example, there are some highly authoritarian regimes out there and I doubt they allow full freedoms on various social media platforms.

I definitely think social media is a part of the puzzle along with 2 or 3 other things that I'll not mention here for veering off into political la la land.

        Edit:

Just going to change this to avoid the rabbit hole.

I do think that social media is pretty equal across the board and I also agree that it is a large part of the problem.

          I posted this off-topic post on Aug. 29, 2011...

          Spoiler

Fast forward to 2018...I left this place a year ago because I had to take a break. I almost had another job at that time but it didn't work out. I was unemployed for almost a year, and started a new job just recently.

Back to 2017, I had to find a new job, I couldn't take it any more. The place, the people, the commute, the salary, the benefits - all were awesome! But doing what I was doing was just too much to keep doing it...

Now, I have a new job, which is good to have, but I know it's just until I find a job I can do for longer period of time, and this isn't it, but it's great to have a job. But I made a HUGE mistake leaving that place last year, because after being out and around and going to interviews and meeting people and going back and forth...I realized that job I left was the best job I ever had. Now there is no way back, and not a single day passes without me regretting leaving it.

Funny that on Friday I met my old boss from there, as they do business with the new place where I work now. It was great seeing him, and he was super nice, but it was also painful, as I could just run to him and say "Please take me back!"...and I wish I could.

Guess I'll go back to look for a job at the end of summer, when all students go back to school and all that. Maybe there is a chance that the guys at the old place will be looking for someone by then...maybe...but I hope to find another job either way. It's much better to look for a job when you have a job, so you don't have to compromise so much like I did with this current job.

Gonna be weird starting tomorrow. Got a temp job (first temp job I've ever had). It all centers around a 1 day "event", but there's other things before/after to do. Got training tomorrow, then next week is set up and then 1 day job begins(I get paid for all these other days too which is nice)

Don't know how to handle any of this because I've never had a temp job, and basically gonna be going into training not knowing anyone, and not seeing anyone again less than 2 weeks after this. Spending an entire day on training for a 1 day job seems weird. Going to 2 different locations during all of this(1 for training,1 for actual job.) Nice way to make extra money in such a short time though.

As long as you get paid for all this time, that's good.

                Happy Memorial Day OS!

Been up since 4am this morning. My sleep pattern is all messed up thanks to being on pain meds after surgery on Tuesday. Going to do my best to stay up all day so that I can go to sleep at normal time tonight since I have to go back to work tomorrow.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Ya, that's all I really care about. If anything does go bad, I know it's very temporary and I'm getting a decent amount for all this.

lol, a continuation on that attacking bird story. The news has picked up on it (not to me specifically, but about it happening in the city). The citys response is basically just putting up signs in a few parks, and the news being like "wear a hat".

                    That's all that happened.

None of which helps anyone, just makes them aware of a possibility of it happening in a park. Nothing can be done in residential areas it seems like which sucks because you could literally get attacked getting into your car or taking out the garbage. And in the news, they said this could continue until LATE JULY!

In the news, one person mentioned that they put a bird feeder up and it seemed to act as "peace offering". The bird having abit of an understanding with them now. Given what I have tried doing to get rid of it, I think peace offering is off the table.

                      re: Off-Topic

Frustrating job interview. I applied online, they contacted me to come in without an appointment. I did that and had to wait 2 hours for an interview, not before they asked me to fill out an application....... I literally did online, why am I reapplying basically? Not like there were many people interviewing, there was 1 guy ahead and he waited for over 90 minutes.

The whole time I was waiting, had to sit in an area with people there for other reasons, and listened to their front desk person at times rudely talk to people. Was so close to just walking out. Thought about it, and was 5 mins from doing so but suddenly the other guy went in. To make it worse, their lot had 2hr visitor parking, so I was uneasy waiting not knowing if I was fine to park longer.

By time I finally got called in, had to wait another 20 minutes for someone to show up. Some random woman who seemed uninterested in screening. Questions she was asking was literally things she could find out by reading my application, both in person and online. She starts questioning things about my application like past experience (they had issues with amount of time I had been at positions in past), if I had experience in certain industries, and time I'm available to work. Job description said nothing about weekends or evenings, or experience in certain fields.

Seriously, why waste my time if all that info had been known weeks before when I applied and got asked to come in. No, I'm not working a full time job Saturday at midnight if my application clearly stated no weekends. When I apply for jobs, I'm under assumption that if they contact me, it's because they looked at my resume and liked what they see.

Last person was better at least. Seems like they would be working in same department. That part went slightly better. Seems like I could potentially have the job, assuming I provide an additional reference. Just don't know if I want it. Pay isn't anything special, and the feeling I had about company before interview even happened(while I was waiting) wasn't good one. Job itself might be fine, but most coworkers(minus final guy interviewing me) seem like rude people, and even though it's fulltime, seems like hours aren't fixed or proper.

Story should've followed with you walking out and applying for a different job.

Does anyone have a good generic non sports video game podcast they listen to ? The IGN one I don't like as its filled of people trying to be funny and I just want someone to talk about the games.

I walked out... After it was done lol. Have been applying all over, but no luck. This interview makes me wonder about how many companies passed for same concerns this one had. I got the education, and numerous jobs, internships and volunteer positions, but doesn't seem to be helping so much. One place they implied I was basically "overqualified" for it.

Not even getting call back for some "safety net" jobs I even stated I'd work weekends makes me wonder what's up.

But no doubt I'm passing on that job if offer does come. If that happens in interview to people they got no control over, can't imagine what work is actually like.

Maybe look at some other types of opportunities than what you've been going after? Like when George Costanza started doing everything the opposite.

Hasn't really been many. Don't know what you mean by on purpose? Like I'm trying to get jobs in sketchy places? Trying to sabotage what I have? Or what?

This has been the only horrible interview. A bad job last year, but that wasn't because of me. Just got caught up in a crazy situation stemming from person who hired me getting fired days after I started. The one I had after that bad one was actually my favorite job I had, even if it was one that was temporary. If they had an opening, I'd definitely want to go back. Have looked into it but unfortunately they don't right now, though I'd be one of first to find out if they ever did since I have many top people there on LinkedIn,and even phone contacts.

But I definitely need to change up my strategy. Contracted summer stuff for now to buy time, then get something bigger in fall once that contract is finished. But after today, they make me question if short term jobs are worth it because companies might not like that I've worked at various places in short time. Though it is a new world, people don't stay in spots as long as they used to. Everyone knows that. At least I thought they did.
