It's crazy to think we had more than one option for each sport. Even crazier to think we had a plethora of extreme sport titles and a handful of arcade/street sport games.

    Hooray for progress!

EA Sports heyday was 2000-2005 I feel like.

      NCAA March Madness
      NCAA Football
NBA Live (2000 with MJ was incredible, including the 1on1 mode)
      Madden
      NHL

Gosh if each of these games was a requirement to get.

I wish a company would reboot the NCAA games. Make all the players fake with fake attributes, just let me edit them. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I remember how I played NCAA so much I knew where every new NFL player went to college and when they were drafted.

      I miss those days.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

throw in some NASCAR Thunder, MLB Triple Play/MVP, Fight Night and Tiger Woods for good measure.

When I was a kid we had nintendo and my dad would take me and my sister to blockbuster or curtis mathes, I'd walk to the playstation area just to look at all the NCAA games. I have a weird flashback memory of just looking at all the titles lol

The games probably weren't even good, but grabbing the cases and looking at the back and reading the details and seeing the images of gameplay always fired me up.

and then I returned home with my copy of Tecmo Bowl and had fun anyway

Ah the long lost art of renting movies and games. It was a special Friday if we could go to Movie Gallery or Blockbuster. I remember renting Titanic and my mom not knowing there was nudity in it.. lmao.

Movie Gallery used to have a 5 games, 5 nights, $5 deal so my parents let me and my sister go rent 5 SNES games most weekends. We both picked two and then had to agree on the other.

I remember the frustration and complete disappointment when you rented a game you really wanted to try and it didn't work.

Similarly, watching a Netflix movie and suddenly someone dropping uncensored F bomb in a non 18+ movie(theres no option to have censored version. I leaned that the hard way watching with a family member who shouldnt have heard that. Things got awkward fast).

Though on demand networks now I find just cover themselves in all cases. They air exact same "This program may contain nudity, coarse language etc." warning before every show with PG rating or higher.

There was a whole tool kit of tricks that we'd try to work around this. Remember blowing into cartridges? Inserting the cartridge into the Nintendo just so with a certain amount of pressure...various rituals with turning on/off. And when discs became a thing, there was the little disc polisher and spray bottle that you'd try your best to wipe away the scratches just enough so the game could work. I remember with particularly scratched discs thinking...my god what did the previous customer do to this? Rub it between 2 sheets of sandpaper?

Then there was the 'good' video store that included instruction manuals with the rental games and jankier video stores that just gave you a clear plastic box with a bar code on the outside.

I definitely owned a "specifically designed" spray bottle and disc buffer that had to be manually cranked.

Lol, I got away with reading game manuals in class. During "reading time". Everyone had a book, I had a game manual.

Nothing more exciting on a Friday than reading the game manual for a game I was hours away from playing.

The Nintendo one was the worse, lol.

I remember a few times I got pissed and slammed it in the system because it wasn’t working when I inserted it gently and next thing you know, the damn thing started playing. [emoji23]
